1975 Vmate restoration

I have most of my ride guide steering parts . New steering wheel. New old stock trim switch. Steering cable tube for installing dual cable ride guides for the inline six ... Just need to measure the boat so I can get some cables ...

Went up to the lake house this weekend to check on everything and took advantage of being there and measured the Vmate for steering cables . I have just about all my parts I need for the restoration . Still looking for a 15 ft cable and a tach but everything else I have . Motor will be getting sent out soon for a rebuild . Soon as the weather breaks Im going to pick her up and bring her home ....

Looks to me like you need to get a cover on that boat. A tarp form Harbor Freight would do.

I was going to cover it than I choose not to since everything will be cut out transom/floor/stringer etc... Its going to be repainted too . Was painted at one time and the paint is dull no chips or cracks or anything but Im going to sand it all back down and my dad will spray it . Im going to have a cover made for it with a draw string no snaps . Than it will live in the garage . Cant wait till its all finished up and I can get it out on the water ...

I finally have all my gauges for the Vmate . I just about have all the parts I need . I still need a 15ft ride guide steering cable . I found a 12ft brand new about 2 weeks ago and purchased it . I was hoping this weather was going to change so I could get the boat back home and start working on it . But we ended up getting 10.2 in of snow last night so look like it will have to wait alittle longer . I also need to get out and pick up the other 150 hp Merc so I can have it sent out to wayne and have it all rebuilt . Wizard is having his sent to him here shortly too . This weather is just awful . I cant wait to get this project rolling My basement is starting to look like a Mercury parts counter .

I like the gauges. I'm going to go black as well but I haven't bought them yet. Can't wait to see some progress on the boat when the weather breaks.

Thanks mike . I liked them too was alittle difficult finding those nos. I cant wait to see more pictures of yours when you get back to it again . Soon i as get mine home im tearing it apart and getting to it . I hope to have it done by the end of summer if not sooner .

I'm looking forward to seeing some progress on this project, I'm thinking of taking on a similar project with a 77 Vmate 1, it also needs a floor, transom and paint, and everything else but I can get the hull and trailer for free if I decide I want it, I'm not really ready for the project yet, I was thinking of doing it as a long term thing for my son, I have quite a few years till he'll be driving so no hurry, I might just take it and store it for a few years, it would be kind of neat to rebuild one from scratch like that, I'm sure I'll find some usefull knowledge from your project.

I had those same black gauges in my Eluder before I put new ones in, I sold most of them but I think I still have a matching trim gauge in the garage, if you want it you can have it, that is if I can find it.

Thanks John . Yeah I really like the little Vmate gunna be a nice ride when Im finished . The fun ws finding everything that Ive needed . I went old school with everything . If you find that gauge let me know .... Hey if you can pick that hull up for free you cant beat that .

Update . Weather is starting to change . already have one boat at home doing a few things to it before boating season hits . Next the Vmate will be here . I have new motor mounts on there way here for the motor and new plugs . Also the 15ft steering cable I was looking for is also on its way and should be here tomorrow steering system is now complete . There are a few other things on there way too but not going to disclose that at this time . Really all I have left to do is get the paint get the hull ready for that and do a floor and transom and send out the motor for a rebuild .

My 15 ft foot cable came today . Along with a few other things .
I have my paint colors picked out already too . The deck will be white the band below the rub rail will be blue and the bottom white .

The seats will be white with blue welting . Im 99% sure im not putting in the back seat . Ill most likely have a cover made to cover the bildge area and it just be a 2 seater . I will be the only one in it for the most part . So why weigh it down with a back seat :D.

I havent updated in a while and thats because I havent touched this thing . I take that back I did lean up against it while talking to the neighbor lol . I did finally go and dig out the motor on monday Since I wasnt at work . So now thats home . Some time in my life time I hope to have the boat home so I can get to it .....

Well another step in the right Direction . I bought a external wire harness that goes from the control box to the motor . Im replacing everything else why not the old harness that looks like crap . The internal harness on the motor was already replaced with new and only used once since I replaced it ...
