2-Cycle Oil

that makes me feel a bit better, heck I have always changed plugs once a year even mixing 50:1 in my old evinrude. By the way what type of oil do you run in yours? The engine had been run on "quicksilver" premium plus and I switched to mercury premium plus, the mechanic at the local dealer said there is no difference between the two. I would switch to the full synthetic except for the fact that mercury doesn't offer a full synthetic so it makes me wonder if it's not right for their motors, maybe i just think too much, hehe.

Well The BP's were not meant to be idled around seeings it's a hipo motor. But if Jay told you 40:1 you can trust what he tells you, he's a very respected builder and will not steer you wrong..

another way to save money is find out were you can buy the merc oil in bulk. my freinds and i purchased i 55 gal drum directly through a merc rep it came with a hand pump on top and lasted about a season and a half for the four of use. ended up costly a lot less in the long run, just another way to save money and still run the "good stuff"

It was the plugs, put 6 new NGK in it and she runs like new, probably better than it has since I haveowned it,I am mixing 40:1 from now on, you see this is not a race boat, so it does need to idle, I also don't turn more than 7K RPM's and 90% of the time it is running 6K max so I don't see the harm, jay smith posted at scream and fly that he really likes the full synthetics and runs them at 32:1 on race motors that turn 8-10K, 40:1 on semi-synthetics is good up to 7K so thats what I am doing. I will probably start mixing thicker and thicker but I need to keep a spare set of plugs and wrench on the boat to do that, I do too much putting around to get away with it i think. The general consensus is run a semi or full synthetic at 40:1 or greater for high RPM's. My local marina fills up my merc premium plus 1gal container for me for 19 bucks, beats the 27they charge for it normally. -shane

I started out using Pennzoil. Plugs always had a little crust on them. Switched to Merc last year and whenever I check my plugs they are always nice and clean...no crust at all. I run 50:1. For me the extra money is worth it.
