2-Stroke Oil prices

So I wandered off to Gander Mountain today, knowing they've always had the best boat supplies pricing of anyone else around my parts. Wife's tubing tow-pig is low on 2-stroke oil, and after running Pennzoil biodegradable 100% synthetic marine 2-stroke oil for two seasons, maybe I'd switch back to Yamalube 2-stroke oil. Holy cow! $40 dollars a gallon for the Yamaha semi-synthetic!
So I think on it a while, then out the door I go. Back to my local Menards! 100% synthetic for $24.98. Semi-syn for $19.99. Choose your poison :rof:
I go for the 100% synthetic because it's biodegradable, and yes I've accidently spilled it in the lake before with no ill effects.

I buy my oil at Walmart, they're the cheapest around for the fish n mota. I probably need to be running the XD50 or XD100 oil.:shakehead:

Local Walmart no longer carries full syn penz. I miss it's sweet smell, in comparison their blend with ethanol fuel smells like a burn barrel. I would buy all of the 100% on their shelf at that price. need a Menards

At my local dealer I buy the XD 30 or the Yamalube for my carb'd 200 for $ 21.99 / gallon.
No need to go to Wal Mart here.

Isn't the Penziol 100% Synthetic now called the Penzoil XLF Synthetic? My local Wally World carries the XLF.

Smart. Get "good stuff" cheaper than the ''cheap stuff"..

Stupid ?, but having the drum sit around for 2 yrs doesn't hurt/degrade the stuff at all?
The drum only last one summer between me and a buddy. If it did sit around for 2 summers it will not hurt the oil at all. We have drums of snowmoblie oil at the shop that we sell bulk oil from and at times a drum will sit from winter to winter and have no issue what so ever

I wouldnt touch Penzoil regardless of the price.

I NEVER would have either in the past, was the worst oil you could put in a boat. And I NEVER put it in my cars.
But for boats, that's OLD NEWS. One of the most respected outboard engine builders (Jay Smith) frequents Scream and Fly, and after years of his recommendations I decided to try it. Been working good for me for about 7 years now, zero issues. The Penn 100% syn started out being made by someone else, Pennzoil just bought the rights to make it. The company that distributes it is SOPUS. Whatever that is.

Jay has torn down and inspected the internals of more engines than about anyone, I trust his advice. If it's good for an engine that gets used hard, then it's good for my engine that gets used under normal conditions.

Now, if I could get Yamalube semi-syn at my local dealer for $21, I probably would.

For the guy that asked me what oil I would use in MY motor turning over 9000 RED LINE !!!!!

8000 or less on coated sleeved engine PEN 100% syn...

On steel sleeved engines 8000 or less PEN or Merc BLENDS

BTW Mercury does NOT Make a 100% syn oil PERIOD don't be dooped ! It a myth !

Uh Ohhhh Pete! You better run all that syn Pennzoil TCW3 out that I used! ;)

After buying 10 gal yamalube @ $27 gal I started using Pennzoil and never looked back. Would get it for $18/gal on sale n stock up!

Buy a four stroke and change your oil once a year and give your extra money to me for the great idea !!!!!:rof:

LOL! josh there's a reason that stuff is $18 a gallon!

I use the XD100 in both my outboards, The merc is injected plus I mix the gas at 100:1 and it doesn't smell or smoke at all, $38.00 a gal from my dealer, I wouldn't use anything else.

Myself and a freind buy a 55 gallon of Merc Premium Plus. Cheaper than buying by the gal. Now that I have the 250XS not sure how much longer I will do this since it sips the oil compared to the 225 EFI

Wish I could! My Honda 4-stroke makes a perfect pontoon motor. I'd love to hang a yamaha or Merc 4-stroke on the back of the tubing tow pig. But for now, I gotta see if I can find a $21 deal on yamalube for next time.
