2006 Checkmate Poker Run/Regatta

It's time for us to start thinking about the 2006 Checkmate Poker Run/Regatta. We are considering having the regatta at Lyman Harbor again next year in July. Because of the feedback we got from the last poker run, we are thinking about changing the course for the run. We will try to make the course longer next year so that everyone has the opportunity to see more of Lake Erie. One thing we do need to get a better handle on is who is interested in attending so we can get a total number of people. If you are interested, please post your interest to this site. More information will be posted as it is available.

You can count me in for this event!!! Lyman Harbor is a great choice. This past summers event was fun. I know that all the people I spoke with were hoping for another Poker Run!!!

We came with 2 boats from West Michigan this year but I think that there will be several others who will want to make the trip next year. We've told all our Checkmate friends how much fun we had.

COUNT JEFF AND THE SUZI IN AGIAN,

IS THERE ANY INTREST IN THE DEEP-V GUYS ON TAKING A DAY TRIP OVER TO PUT-IN BAY ISLAND. ITS APX. 14 MILES FROM LYMAN MARINE. NEVER REALLY OUT OF SIGHT OF LAND. MAYBE THE FRIDAY BEFORE OR SUNDAY AFTER ?
I COULD LOOK INTO WHAT IT TAKES TO RESERVE SOME DOCK SPACE AT 1 OF THE PRIVATE MARINAS FOR FRIDAY. THE PULIC DOCKS ARE USALLY FULL OR NEAR FULL BY NOONISH ON FRIDAY.ON SUNDAY IT WOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM TO GET DOCKAGE AT THE PUBLIC DOCK AFTER NOON.
JUST THROWING OUT SOME IDEALS. CNC WIZARD WHERE ARE U !!!!!!!!

Hope to make it again.
I sure hope to find a bigger boat as the Diplomat was just too small for the water conditions

As to weather we come up for 2006, I can not answer that one, as I said before its not my boat but I would like to make it.

I DEFINITELY want to know and attend since it was in my backyard last year! I found out too late to get out of work last year(gotta pay to play). I quite possibly could help organize w/ enough notice(area connections).

Let me know what ya'll come up with and I'll do anything I can. I'd love to spend some OH north coast time w/ some other 'Mate folks!

Hey Guys I got some pictures of PUT-IN-BAY from the air.The wife and I took a ride in a bi-plane last time over.So if anyone is thinking about a daytrip or even a overnighter. I sure hope these pictures help make your mind up.

Pic 1 was shot from the Admiral Perry Peace Momument apx 310 ft up. Great Shot.

Pic 2 same pic only from bi-plane. sunday afternoon the marina was clearing out.

pic 3 Is looking back at the momument and giving a perspective on how close all this fun is. The island to the rear left is KELLYS ISLAND and to the rear right is the mainland MARBLEHEAD and if you look hard you can see SANDUSKY BAY behind that.

Pic 4 is of MAIN STREET with all the shopping for her and everything else for him.

245 Is ABSOLUTELY correct about the island. There are multiple attractions for everyone. Friday, Saturday and early Sunday it's pretty packed with a "Mardi Gras" party atmosphere. But, Sunday afternoons the pace slows dramatically and the locals take over things. If anyone does'nt want to go on their own rig, there are 2 ferrys exclusive to P-I-B. The Jet Express out of Port Clinton, OH. and the Miller Ferry from Catawba Island which is a northen point on the mainland. Miller is cheaper, but the Express is faster. Accomodations are hard to come by on the Island, but plentiful all areas of the mainland. The whole north coast of OH. is loaded with torist oriented activities during the season. Lots of fun to be had , regardless of what you're into. When I'm not earning $, I'm up in the area. Most defintely worth checking out!

I would be interested, depending on the dates. It would be a long trailer haul for me. We have a local run here that is the beginning of July that I do not want to miss.

We probably won't be coming

in 2006 because we are adopting a little brother for Mya sometime between April & July. If things are delayed with the adoption we will be there like last year in the Starliner, but it all depends on how things go and timing. We will be disappointed for sure if we can't come, it was one of the best boating events we've been to, even though the weather wasn't the best.
