I use this three step process for restoring the shine on gel coat. If the gel coat is really oxidize I'll use 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound, #05954. Follow that up with a good coat of wax either Collinite Paste Fleetwax #885, 3M Marine Ultra Performance Paste Wax or a wax of your choice. You can buy most of these products at your local Auto Parts store or here: http://www.premiumboatcare.com/

6085 x 1 Quart
6064 x 1 Quart
6068 x 1 Quart
5723 x 1 Foam Pad
5725 x 1 Foam Pad
5733 x 1 Foam Pad

6085 is 3M's best performing rubbing compound. Fast cutting and fine finish. Effectively removes P1200 grade and finer sand scratches. Easy cleanup.

6064 Quickly and effectively removes compound swirl marks and produces an outstanding finish. Good handling, easy cleanup.

6068 Produces a swirl free finish even on black vehicles. Quickly and effectively removes fine machine polish swirls. Outstanding finish.

5723 Single Sided Foam Compounding Pad used to refine P1200 or finer sand scratches. Flat back design

5725 Single Sided Black Foam Polishing Pad used to remove compound swirl marks and fine paint surface defects.

5733 Foam pad eliminates swirl marks on painted surfaces, even on difficult dark colored cars finishing step after swirl mark remover.

Here's close up shots of my Ranger after buffing and polishing. I only did step two and three.

I'll second the 3M kit, pricey but well worth it. I have a 2100 Pulsare Bowrider where the white top gelcoat was yellowed around the tonneau cover where exposed to the sun. Did not need to use the scrubbing/rubbing compound but the other 2 products and pads brought back all the original luster. Also did a 201 Stratos Ski OB black and Silver flake like the Ranger, the black hull came out phenomenal, mirror finish, no swirl marks.
