I went out Friday afternoon and came across these two empty self unloadering freighters heading north, up to iron ore country. They are heading up the Livingston channel, which is actually the down bound channel. (the only place the in the great lakes that the shipping channel is split into 2 channels). I haven't seen them run in pairs in some time.

The walled channel is about 4.5 miles long. The Army Corp of Eng. left a hole in the walls in the middle to allow the water thier pushing to exit and to let pleasure boats through, this creates an eddy of water re-entering the channel that spins around the point thats equal to any class 3-4 rapid. A 2-3 ft. hole spinning for 3-4 minutes. This time it was times X2. I should of shot video but this is at the end of its life cycle.

And that exact point had a 30 ft SeaRay run up on it, with the entire boat coming to rest at least 5' out of the water about 15 yrs ago. Only a broken nose for the driver. GO LIONS! - WHAT A JOKE- NO THE NFL HAS BECOME A JOKE.
