Anyone use a Ballistic prop?

Reason is because im trading a 21p Ballistic omc prop for my 19p merc prop.

Is there a advantage to having the squared ends or is this bad for a mercury?

Also he said it could possible come off because the thrust washers are different from the OMC to Merc. Anyone Know?

OMC and Black motor props are not interchangable. Unless you press in a new hub. ( just in case you weren't aware )
 
The Ballistic is a great prop if you run it low in the water or dont have a jack plate. They spool up very quick and have great mid range. Just dont run it to high or it'll cavitate like nothin.

Small case Omc is 13 spline and merc small case is 15 spline
Re-hub is about $45

83predictor i there any other advantages to running this prop besides the sppol up?(this mean hole shot right?)

What pitch prop are you running?
would 21p be good or really should i just test a few different pitches?

Did you ever get your tach. working? If so what rpm are you running @WOT

If I were you I would just hold on to the 19P as a spare or ski prop and look for a 23P or 24P prop. I am running a small dia 26P at 6250 rpm with my 150 V6. I am sure you'd be spinning way to many R's with a 19P or 21P.
 
I ran a 27P 4 blade Ballistic on my trimate when I first got it. Worst prop I ever had. Did not take long to trade that one back in. It may of had to much bit for my light weight boat. the handling was crazy.
 
I have a 14 1/2 x 26 balstic on my boat. It runs great, & is a good 4mph faster than a 26p omc raker. It works well with the V8 on my starliner & w/ the GT200 on the back of my 83 glasstron. As for interchanging, the difference between omc & small shaft merc is the length of the splines. The omc hub is splined about 2" into the prop, the merc is splined all the way through. OMC will work on a merc no problem, merc will go on an omc little over 1/2 way. I am not sure about the tower of power motors.
 
i do have a back-up 19 pitch aluminum prop.

so everyone thinks i should jump to a 24 or 25 amybe a 26 pitch prop?

my damn powerpack went out the other day so currently im fixing that.
 
As stated, the Ballistic is fast if not run too high. But, you need a small hub Merc prop. That OMC will not fit your L6. You will not be able to turn a 26" prop with that motor...even if you could find a small hub in that pitch. You need to tach your WOT with the 19" first and go from there. Likely you need a 19-21 to turn to 5500 RPM.

when i get my boat back for the shop ill put a 22p or 23p pitch on and get my tach hooked up and go from there.

Mark- why wouldnt i be able to turn a 26p with my motor?

I want to be able to have a decent hole shot but still have top speed. This 19p isnt doing what i want. It jump out of the hole like a bat out of hell then chills out instead of speeding up. so i think ill tell the shop to put a 22 or 23p on to test out. any objections to this Pitch?

There are a couple of reasons why I don't think you will be able to turn a 26. The L6 150 has no where the displacement or the torque of a V6 150. Secondly, they were horsepower rated at the engine not the prop like today's motors. Depending how tired it is, on a dyno it might turn similar numbers to a modern 115. The L6 does not like to be bogged down. It needs to be propped to turn 5500+ at WOT. No way it is going to turn a 26x14 prop that high. As I mentioned it needs to be a small hub prop and will probably turn a small diameter prop better as well (13 or 13 1/4"). It will be very hard to find a prop like that over 22" pitch. You definitely want to try and see what it will do with different props. Based on personal experience with the L6 my best guess is you will end up with a 20-21". But then again, who knows...
 
Mark has some very good points.

I found that the LaserII works great on the Predictor. The even # pitches are small dia and the odd # pitches are large dia. You may want to look for a 20P, 22P or 24P LaserII.

Remember those Tach. numbers
 
I had one on a alpha in a 21 baja, was faster on top end than a mirage I tried, but did not get on plane quite as well....
