I was looking at a tube and it just didn't make sense to me from a $$$ standpoint. I was doing it solely because of grip. I wasn't joking when I said I fell off the darn thing the first day I had it on my driveway. The aftermarket would have been $2500 to $3000 min when all was said and done. If memory serves the platform with a nice ladder that folds up slim underneath was about $2000 shipped, plus a 2-4 week wait min, from when I got all the dimensions, etc. Then I'd have to repair the transom from the pre existing bolt holes and pray the guy trying to match 20 year old gel did a good job. Figured $1000 for that. The Sea Dek was fast, came out good, MORE grip than the tube. Only other thing I wanted to do was a nice undermount swim ladder so I didn't have the stocker on top breaking up the nice lines of the pad. Ladder cost me about $160 and is easier to operate and goes deeper in the water.
I'm in the same boat right now. I will see how much the Seadek is and set down and make a comparison. The only thing that might make me go ahead and go with a tube is that I am changing tabs out from Bennets to K-Planes, so I am going to be doing some transom repair anyways. but I to have busted my a$$ more than once on my platform and I really don't want to stick down some ugly grip tape. I have thought about repainting it and adding some sand or something into the paint for the textured part. But I will see what kind of quote I get back for the Seadek before I do anything.
Hey Corey, I'm guessing you've done the Cumberland Poker Run? I'm making reservations for the summer this week and I THINK that's one I want to go to with the Mrs. Do they do a high speed shoot out there? I'm not going to ask if it's a good time, I'm sure it is lol....From the pics it looks crazy.
I have been to it just about every year for the last 10 years or more. They changed the format a couple of years ago after a bad accident that took a couple of lives. Now, it is more like the Tickfaw 200 where you have a couple of days to make all the stops. It is definitely not as much fun from a spectator point of view, but all the participants seem to love it. There is no official speed shootout, but after a day of smack talk, a lot of guys end up down by the dam for some friendly grudge racing, which is fun to watch. But the highlight of the weekend by far is the party back in Harmon Creek. Its pretty epic. This pic only shows about half of it...

Needless to say, you won't be disappointed if you come up for it. The lake is amazing, and its a helluva party!!!
