Black 283 Build in Charlotte

I was looking at a tube and it just didn't make sense to me from a $$$ standpoint. I was doing it solely because of grip. I wasn't joking when I said I fell off the darn thing the first day I had it on my driveway. The aftermarket would have been $2500 to $3000 min when all was said and done. If memory serves the platform with a nice ladder that folds up slim underneath was about $2000 shipped, plus a 2-4 week wait min, from when I got all the dimensions, etc. Then I'd have to repair the transom from the pre existing bolt holes and pray the guy trying to match 20 year old gel did a good job. Figured $1000 for that. The Sea Dek was fast, came out good, MORE grip than the tube. Only other thing I wanted to do was a nice undermount swim ladder so I didn't have the stocker on top breaking up the nice lines of the pad. Ladder cost me about $160 and is easier to operate and goes deeper in the water.

I'm in the same boat right now. I will see how much the Seadek is and set down and make a comparison. The only thing that might make me go ahead and go with a tube is that I am changing tabs out from Bennets to K-Planes, so I am going to be doing some transom repair anyways. but I to have busted my a$$ more than once on my platform and I really don't want to stick down some ugly grip tape. I have thought about repainting it and adding some sand or something into the paint for the textured part. But I will see what kind of quote I get back for the Seadek before I do anything.

Hey Corey, I'm guessing you've done the Cumberland Poker Run? I'm making reservations for the summer this week and I THINK that's one I want to go to with the Mrs. Do they do a high speed shoot out there? I'm not going to ask if it's a good time, I'm sure it is lol....From the pics it looks crazy.

I have been to it just about every year for the last 10 years or more. They changed the format a couple of years ago after a bad accident that took a couple of lives. Now, it is more like the Tickfaw 200 where you have a couple of days to make all the stops. It is definitely not as much fun from a spectator point of view, but all the participants seem to love it. There is no official speed shootout, but after a day of smack talk, a lot of guys end up down by the dam for some friendly grudge racing, which is fun to watch. But the highlight of the weekend by far is the party back in Harmon Creek. Its pretty epic. This pic only shows about half of it...

Needless to say, you won't be disappointed if you come up for it. The lake is amazing, and its a helluva party!!!

UPDATE: Had the boat out on Saturday and I was running into a brick wall at 5000 RPM. With both 28p and 32p props. It was obvious we have a limiter in there. These engines make peak PQ TQ with the cams around 5200 and have max sustained at 6200 so we are not close. I'm opening up the distributors whenever this rain stops and replacing the petronix module in there. btw, at 4900rpm 32p boat is running about 82 and 28p about 76mph. Plenty of blow out because she is running a solid 50mph with the 28p @ 3000 rpm. Brett from B blades is calculating the slip at those max speeds over the 20% range. We are working under the assumption it is because I have the stub nose pre 1990 or whatever year lower drive on there. It is what Shogren had put on. I'll get the limiter out of there and go from there. However, SADLY, someone else may have to finish the fun project. Not sure I'm going to spend the $$ for new lowers, even though that's all it may take. When I bought this boat I wasn't on the lake. This past winter I finally found a home and put in a 16 thousand pound lift. I don't have to worry about launching every time I go out so I'm already looking at an upgrade, probably end of the season. We will see........ Hope to have more data this weekend. Finally I'm on to the fun part :rof:

I'm with you 100% on the platform - love the idea

Cumberland poker run is a must, I've been there the past 4 years and will have my 283 there this year.

Hows the boat feel at 82mph? mine has some chine walk that you really have to drive through in the 80s.

It definitely has chine walk starting around 80. Not sure how to combat that, I'm a cat guy to be honest. Any suggestions or observations you've made would be great lol. I saw one guy that said trim down the left tab, keep right nuetral. I've read about a small jerk on the wheel. Just need to experiment I guess.

I'll free up another 1200 rpm hopefully this weekend with the new limiters in the distributor. Hopefully I'll try the 28's and 32's, spinning in and out, and see what happens. I've been spinning in so far.

Wheel jerk works for a single engine boat IMO

Best practice I have found has been slow throttle or back off a hair and roll slowly back into the max throttle.

Tabs help but at the last mph they hold my boat back, granted it will respond a little different then yours as I have boxes so my drives are further from the hull.

Have you had a detailed inspection of your hull? When we're going 40 or 50 it doesn't matter too much but as our speed climbs having a true and clean hull becomes more important. Making sure those strakes and chines are sharp will greatly improve handling and performance.

Just my two cents.
