Building twin outboards for my Convincor

You still working on this?
Summer right around the corner. Better hustle! See ya soon.

Lol, yep! This week I've been playing with the Marines for a few days and now it's Army time at Fort Lee.

I love going on our bases and seing our men and women in uniform. They stand tall and proud and look ready to kick azz.

the I figured you meant the actual military installation and not the town by the George Washington Bridge. :)

No, family has was in town for a week for Thanksgiving and I haven't messed with it. I have used PB blaster about 20 times though so maybe it'll just fall of now. :D

I was playing with the idea of sending the lower units to either http://randrpropshop.com/ or http://www.low-h2o.com/ for some love during our winter months though. Has anyone ever dealt with either of these folks?

Use a 50/50 mix of Automatic Transmission Fluid and Acetone in a squirt bottle instead. Best scientifically tested penetrating lube there is and is significantly more effective than any commercial penetrating lube. That is all I use anymore and it will impress. PB blaster is only marginally better than WD-40. I need to find that article somewhere but am a little wary of searching for "penetrating Lube Tests" on the internets at work.:p

They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch, and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.

No, it should not. Ive never had that happen....now Brake Fluid is a different story haha.

If trans fluid was a paint stripper, I would have a Dodge truck that is a mostly bare sheet metal from blowing trans lines a couple times.

Trans fluid is a light oil with a lot of detergents, not stripping agents. Awesome injector cleaner for diesels too might I add. Dump a couple quarts into a full tank. Will smoke a bit but works better than most off the shelf injector cleaners.

If there is acetone in the mix I would think it would remove paint since it is nail polish remover.

John
Good point. I guess I normally use it on stuff that has long since been void of paint hence the need of penetrating lube haha.

I doub't it would have any immediate effects on older fully cured paint. Lacquer nail polish is one thing..... corrosion resistant, fully aged, baked on Merc paint is another. That crap barely would grind off when I was repainting my lower.

Back on topic, lol.

I banged on the prop for an hour or so without any success. I put a crowbar under it and added just some light pressure and nothing moved. I'm going to buy a prop puller for $100 and see if that'll move it.

Update: That stupid @!$%#&! prop will not come off!!! I've been hitting with with PB blaster for weeks now and this 3 jaw puller isn't cutting it. :yell:

The puller isn't fully grabbing under the prop with all three legs and it has popped off a couple of times. I have had two hands on that breaker bar and I'm putting almost all the azz I have in it and it wont budge.

I've hit it with heat (regular propane not map gas) and I've hit the prop with a cloth covered hammer with no luck.

I have not stopped and got any ATF to mix with acetone yet but that is next. Right now I have the puller on it very tight and I'm going to see what that does for a day or two. I'll see if I can get another half turn on it each day or so.
