Was your tank low? Maybe you got the bottom of the tank.

Plugs that are all black and fouled up usually mean a too rich mixture. Do you run the BU8H surface gap plugs? I think those are the plugs for your motor.
When you get a fresh set in, after the motor is warmed up make a long full throttle pass to set the WOT condition in the combustion chambers and shut off the key. Yes, shut off the key at WOT! Paddle back to shore and pull the plugs. Each one should be a nice tan color and clean and dry. If they are dark OR real light, then you're too rich or too lean. Too lean will smoke the motor. Too rich will carbon it up.
Now, if it's just an idle circuit problem fowling the plugs, then turn your idle jets in all the way counting how many turns you make. Back the jets out again the same amount, either opening them up a little or closing them a little to richen or lean out the idle mixture.

If it's a weak system that's not firing the plugs very well, you should see some plugs doing better than others.

if i am running a bit rich on the top end, could i install a set of stacks? i purchased them in the spring but never put them on.

well yeah, but i've read that they dont really work until you get over 7500 rpms anyway?

If you're running fat all over the rpm range, then after you install the velocity stacks, then also add the factory louvers to the cowling to allow more air

AND, you might as well order the dual-stage Boyesen reeds for your motor for a nice easy winter project. Mix the oil at 40:1 and spin the motor to 6500 all day long.................

I have a similar problem with my 115, hard starting, and a tendency to stall when starting out, and a ruff idle, also when slowing up after high speed runs. but once I get past half throttle the motors runs like it should. how do you adjust the low speed jet on the carbs? The plugs are the same number on my 115.

Thanks

Will

It might not just be a rich idle mixture. Make sure you're getting a strong spark at the lower rpms, AND make sure you still have good compression. If your spark and compression is good, then you should be able to find some small straight slot screws on the carb that adjust the idle mixture. You should check with your mechanic or get a service manual for the motor.

Where both banks of plugs the same?
P.S if you do all that shit to you're motor this winter, I'm coming down there next summer for a ride!!!!!! I'l bring my slower panther too.

yeah all the plugs are all even in color. compression is even as well.

i just hope i dont spread myself too thin on all my winter projects. boat, truck, and dune buggy.

Matt... real easy to get 245hp out of that 200 of yours and still keep it reliable! We need to talk...
