The basics are required. A life jacket for every occupant, a throwable floatation device, a fire extinguisher, working horn, anchor with 100ft of line, for boats 21ft. and under you need an oar. I have been asked about flares and a distress flag before, but I'm not sure about their requirement. I have both anyways. You will also need a valid ID and proof of valid registration.

Good thing is, effective this year, Kentucky Wildlife Officers can no longer stop you randomly. It is now like police on the land, they have to have probable cause to stop you. They pretty much have to see you doing something wrong or unsafe, like going to fast in a no wake zone or appearing to have to many people onboard. So as long as you are behaving, and keep your beer cans covered by a koozie, you won't have anything to worry about.

And another note, I have been boating on Cumberland for over 25 years now and have only been stopped twice and both times the officers were super nice. Only one time did I get a ticket and that was only because my dad forgot to put his new registration sticker on the hull. That is why they stopped me. I have talked to them many times at marinas and such and they are always nice and have told me on multiple occasions "As long as you aren't acting like an idiot, we won't bother you. The last thing we want is for people to stop coming to the lake because of the over-bearing water patrol. We realize that without the tourists revenue, most of us wouldn't have a job". So just be respectful of others and watch the no-wake zones (which are all very clearly marked) and you won't have any issues. Hell, when I go by them out in the middle of the lake at full throttle, big block just a singing, I give them a big wave and they wave right back.

Thanks very much. I guess I need to pick up a throwable flotation device, unless you can just throw a regular lifejacket?

I have seen people try to use that argument with no success. They want to see the real deal. They are pretty cheap, I have seen them on Amazon for like $10-11.
 
Just got some bad news from the lake. They have had over 6" of rain in the last week and have shut the flood gates on the dam to keep Nashville from flooding. This has made the lake level come up fast. This is a picture of the launch ramp at the dam as of a half hour ago. I'm praying it clears out in the next week!!!

LC is at 724 currently. Last weekend we were at 716. Went up a foot since yesterday. Certainly enough to cause a mess !!! :mad:

Been checking on it some more and it seems to be pretty isolated to that area. My parents said the lake looks great in front of their house but has come up about 5-6 feet in the last day or so. Also getting reports of little to no debris at State Dock. We should be good. We will just have to keep our eyes open!!

I will be headed out this weekend at grider. We will see how bad it is. Hope they start drawing it down next week !!!
 
I would count on that being gone by next weekend. Plus I just checked the weather report and it is a vast improvement over what I saw yesterday. Very little rain through the week which means the water level will go back down and sunny and 90's through the weekend!!!

How far is it from Bronston ky to grinder hill by car.Reason I'm camped there and we put in at Burnside and boat to the other end,but don't want to make that trip every day especially return at night.
