checkmates at a boat show

I kind of doubt anyone from the Checkmate factory will jump on here to post about this, as they have strong business relationships with both Merc and BRP....and without the comments of the people that were directly involved with the testing of the 250 HO and 300 Opti, it's all secondhand info and can easily be dismissed as gossip. Now, with that being said.........

The story I was told is by Forrest is that they ran both engines on identical boats, on the same day, etc to see how they would stack up. On that particular day, to everyone's amazement, the E-tec 250 HO ran as strong or stronger than the Merc 300 across the board, and posted better top end numbers. The surprising part was that this was with virtually zero test time on the E-tec package to play with props, engine heights, etc.

Before anybody jumps on here to blow me out of the water, I admit I wasn't there, I didn't see the test, and have no idea if the 300 was running poorly, etc. However, for a factory rep to relay these results to consumers at a boat show, I'd have to say there is some basis in truth to what he was saying for the test results on these packages on that particular day.

I think it would be great for some other board members to call or email Forrest, Doug, or Kip to try and confirm these test results. Makes for fun conversation!

Just went to the STL boat show, met Doug Smith saw a WICKED 20ft model-painted similar to Evil Knievels Jumpsuit-White w/red,blue and silver metalflake stripes

When they ran those motors, the water here was just above freezing. So both motors got some cold air and water run through them. They probably ran alot better than if it was 90plus degrees out.

boat was here in akron when they made there factory brochure i drove it, it ran good, doug smith really liked its performance. for the photos in the brochure my roomate drove the evil knievel looking boat with a passenger, and he also drove the red open bow with a passenger. the open bow had a merc 150 the evil kniveivell boat had a 150 e tec. the guy driving didnt work for me nor did he have a lot of driving time in a performance boat.

he like the merc boat. said it had more torque. i have drove both of them my self and i was impressed with the etec

and i have heard about the tests from dougs mouth and he really likes the etecs.

i am just glad to see that merc has some competition, it keeps everyone on the up and up

Lake Norman is rough water stop playing around and drag in some Convincors to sell. Theirs enough money around Norman to sell Convincors or a ZT.
