Convincor LS Swap Project Thread

Im excited to see this build Corey. Unlike my days in school , I am sitting in the front row paying attention to this LS Convincor extravaganza! The weight loss on this project is going to pay great dividends !

Shoot if I could shed 400 lbs and add 100 ponies I would be happy. My boat is a whole different animal when its just me in it as it is.

That is kind of the same thought I have about it. I'm hoping to add at least 200hp, and drop 450-500lbs out of the back. That's like 2 full size men out of the boat!! On paper, it should run pretty good. We will just have to see!!

So I was able to sneak away up to my builders shop today and test fit some parts and snap some pics of the rotating assembly before it was assembled which should be later this week. The stuff really is a thing of beauty and its almost a shame to hide it inside the block!!

Here are the specs:
- 4340 Forged 4" stroke Callies Compstar crankshaft

- 4340 Forged 6.125" Callies Compstar Rods with ARP 2000 bolts

- Wiseco forged pistons -8cc dish.

I also received some parts from Jason at Kunkels Marine this weekend. The biggest was a motor mount that actually has a pretty cool back story. I did some test fitting of it today and also got measurements off of it for the custom oil pan I'm having built. That should be here in a few weeks. This picture also shows just how beefy the mains are in these blocks. Dag gone engines are impressive!!!

I also talked to Bob Madera again today about the cam that he is putting together for me and got some initial specs. I'll get the final numbers and get it ordered tomorrow, but it should be pretty nasty!!!

Things are slowly coming together and I'm getting really excited. Hoping to have the engine on the dyno by summer then start fabricating all the stuff to mount it in the boat.

Got a really cool package in the mail today!!! My cam from Bob at Marine Kinetics showed up. He really is a great guy to deal with. He set me up with a complete valvetrain for this cam as well. That should be here tomorrow or the day after. Coming home to packages like this is better than Christmas morning!!!

LOL, no problem coop!!! I haven't updated this in awhile, mostly because there isn't much going on. I have been getting the big block ready for summer and slowly collecting more parts. I am also working on a guy I work with to sell me his garage sized CNC Mill. I think I have him convinced, so I will now be able to make some really cool one off parts for the swap.

My ultimate goal is to have the motor on the dyno in a month or so. Then it will be onto building all the custom stuff to make it work in the boat and make it look pretty.

Yeah, a lot more info and parts have come available in just the last year or so. The exhaust is completely different than SBC. But on a good note, Basset just released a new line of stainless headers that look really great and are priced very well!! These might be the route I go instead of Lightnings.

IMCO has a nice exhaust.

Lightning, is a few hundred cheaper with an actual header.

Marine Power, on ebay,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marine-powe...5-7-/171760023741?hash=item27fdb1f8bd&vxp=mtr

CP Performance, water pump, and all the accessories for the front of the motor.

And this would be key to making the LS run, instead of all the computer stuff from the car.

MSD has a self contained injection system that is tunable without a laptop.

It adds up quickly, doesn't it?

Still, not bad even if you buy all the expensive stuff. Should be a heck of a set up. And not everyone has one.

Summit Racing even has brand new cast iron truck blocks, for a mere, $399.

I'm thinking of getting one of those, and just buying stuff over the next couple of years.

I think its time for an update. Some of us are not very patient. :poke:

Sorry, I've been slacking. I'll post an update with pics later tonight. I've come up with some pretty interesting solutions to a few problems, mostly cooling related. As far as the motor goes, I'm just waiting on the oil pan I had made to be plated. Should be here in the next week or so. Dyno numbers won't be too far behind that!!!
