CT river Run, 2010.

Due to the possible nor'easter on the way, the run could be postponed, I will update as I hear, There should be a definite answer one way or the other soon,:brickwall:
Remember, I said could, so there its a 50/50 shot it may be a go. The concern is the water level, it may be too high to have beach to pull up to.
Keep you fingers crossed.

Stay tuned!!!

Thanks for the update, I was kinda hoping for a postponement, the river is already high and it's pouring out now. The weather calls for local flooding so it's probably gonna be quite high, That usually means a lot of debris floating too.

I may go up anyway, waited all year for this run,or I may just head done to Salem NJ launch and go across the C&D canal to Chesapeake for my last runn...

I went out sunday. There was ALOT of debris, 30- 40 ft logs, trees with whole root systems, and giant pods of trash laded weeds and sticks, BUT, it was a good day. we launched at Midway marine. ( nice guys but there ramp is tough) and went up to haddam Island. No one was there. then we ran to middletown at harbor park and got a nice spot against the wall and hung out for a few hours with a lot of OSO and CPBA guys, and a few S&Fers. I only saw two other Checkmates but I didn't recognize them. Was anybody else out there?
Had a Good day though!!! going out again next sunday.

Wasn't me. I am planning to go this Sunday though. I'm from northern CT though so I'm gonna launch from either East Hartford or Wethersfield then head south til I see some boats. Looks like most come from the other end of the river but I'd rather boat than tow.

I'm hoping to get out for a little while on saturday and stay in cromwell for the night Prolly wont work out But, I'll see you there sunday, In case your not sure the location of the "Pizza beach" is just north of the Rocky Hill ferry there is a small abandon sailboat. Most get there between 11-12,
Hopfully the weather will be close to as nice as it was last sunday!!

I know exactly where you're talking about. I think that old boat has been around for a long time if I'm not mistaken. I used to practically live on the river about 20 years ago and there was one around there back then too. The stretch of river north of there to the Putnam bridge is cop haven in the summer, not sure about this time of year but keep your eyes open.

I didnt see any enforcement last sunday, From what I hear there isnt any after Columbus day, thats why the run is this late in the year. But I guess you never know, The athorities may be looking for a little revenue late in the season and drop a boat in to make sure no ones having any fun.

Missed the run this year unfortunately. My co pilots brother passed away unexpectedly and it kinda put a damper on things. I didn't feel like looking for someone else to go and my GF hates the cold (although she did offer to go). I figured it would be better to pack it in for the year and winterize the boat but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. May be one more good day.... Hope everyone had a good time.

Sorry to hear about your loss. :(
I was a great day on the river, not a huge turn out, 60 boats maybe. But it was a good run. Met a bunch of goog guys.
I will be spending more time on the river next year. it was a good end to the season.
Maybe we'll see you next year.

Thanks 225. I hope to see you out there next year. I usually drop in in East Hartford do a little cruise and stop at the beach across from Cobalt Marine. It's usually easy to get a spot there, it's nice and sandy and you can walk out pretty far. Great spot for skiing too. PM me if you plan on going to the river!!

I also missed it as i did say i wanted to. I hat to replace motor mounts and all wood on the transom as it was rotted. I found my pass. motor mount sunk in to the wood. Hopefully you goes have something in the spring time. I would love to go and meet yas. Is this river good for a 21' enchanter that is deep in the 80mph. I will have GPS reading buy this sunday. I just finished the floor about a week ago and will be running till my lake freezes over.

Let me know. If not i will be in next year.

Well I am officialy winterized, and shrink wrapped.:(. I cant stand it, its depressing. But I will definitly post when I am heading to the river next season. we can raft up and toss back a cold one (or two). it sounds like across from cobalt or the north side of haddam island are some good spots.
Pray for an early spring.:):):)

Did all that not so fun stuff this weekend. I'd love to head up for a run in the spring.

Logs, trees ? I often thought how nice it must be runnin the rivers. But logs and trees? Yeeeeow. Well I do have to dodge the jumping stergon once in a while. We all have something to look out for. Ya,lls rivers are pretty though.

BGR,
We had just had big rain and an unusually high water level that washed a bunch of stuff into the river, If you check out Youtube and search for
" ct river lumber run" you may see some of the stuff that was coming down. it was pretty crazy. but most of the time its clear sailing.

Thanks will check it out. I some times run on the Suwanee river here in N. Fl. Some stuff floating here and there ( top to my cooler for one) But the water temp is always 72 or so. Quite a current as well. Makes for a fun day when it's in the 100s. Thanks again.
Bruce.

I heard there is something to watch out for in Rocky Hill Like a rock ledge in the water .I am in South Windsor.Want to go from Hartford up the river without hitting anything.Keep me posted on CT runs!

Now that the season is coming around again I'd like to make it up to one of the CT runs. Got a few things to do as soon as the ground is firm enough to pull the boat out and then I'm ready to go.
