dust cap size

Hi, im picking up a 78 trimate saturday long distance, and would like to get buddy bearing caps for the long trip. If someone has the cap SIZE or could measure theirs for me, it would be appreciated. Its the original trailer also. Thanks

Don't have a clue on what you have.But I sure in the hell know that your standard 3500 lb 5 lug hub has a cap opening of 1.98"

I think 1.98" is universal for all trailers but could be wrong. I have a 4 on 4 hub and I just bought a set of wheel bearing protector covers (generic to the bearing buddy brand) at o'reilly's a day or two ago for around $12. Part number 5 3790

I'm not sure but I believe there are 2 different std sizes.Think it all works off the dia. of the spindles. I'm almost sure there is a large and a small dia. spindles.just check to if there is two choices.

i had the same prob with figuring out size. i have a five lug wheel on my trailer and went with 1.98. it turned out to be the next size smaller, a 1.7 something. 1.79 or 1.78, cant remember exactly.

I went to etrailer and found 7 different sizes

• 1.781 Inch
• 1.938 Inch
• 1.980 Inch
• 2.047 Inch
• 2.328 Inch
• 2.441 Inch
• 2.717 Inch

when you buy them from a good dealer, they have a sizing tool that you can use to find out what size you have.

I put a digital caliper in the end of the bearing buddy and never have the right one in stock. They just make to many of them. It seems they could make the outside diameter the same on ones that are close to the same size and have less dust cap sizes. such a inexpensive item can be such a pain.
