Buick made a V6 back in 1962 named the "Fireball". It was a cast iron block. Later, in 1966 or 67 they sold the engine to Jeep. Jeep used it in CJ's as an option. Don't know if it ever found it's way into boats.
In the late 70's GM got in trouble for mismatching engines in there cars without telling people, like putting Olds or Chevy engines in Pontiacs or Chevy engines in Oldsmobiles. A few years after that GM stopped designating particular engines to specific divisions and posted disclaimers on new cars along with the window stickers. Eventually Chevy designed engines took over for GM cars all except for Cadillac.
