How about a new forum?

I was wondering if anyone has an idea for an additional forum.

I usually don't add very many too often as I'm from the less is more frame of mind. But I was thinking it might be about time to add an additional one. I've had a few thoughts lately but I thought I'd get your feedback first. I suppose a new forum could be one dedicated to something we're already chatting about, or it could be a forum for a totally new topic.

If it's a topic we're already posting about, I think creating a dedicated forum would simply make it easier to find the information easier. In this case I would move whatever existing threads we have into it.

In the case of a new topic, we'd just open it up and see what happens.

Here are a few forum ideas....

Appearance and Care-A thread for cleaning waxing and maintenance

Fibreglass Repair and Hull Overhaul & Maintenance-A thread for members doing restoration work and repairs

Prop & Setup- A thread for talking about prop pitch, setback, setups etc.

I/O Tech forum- A tech forum dedicated to I/O owners.

or lastly...

A forum for owners of boats originally designed by Checkmate but built by someone else. I don't know what we'd call it, but it could be for owners of the early Bajas, the Paradise Playmate, Panthers and whatever other models we can remember.

Or how about some of these topics non boating related...

-Sports
-Cars
-Music

I'm sure there are lots more ideas out there. So if you have an idea for a good one let's hear it.

Let me know!

This one I like,
The other one would be prop's and set up.

well we would have to look at what is talked about most in any one forum.
i see much talk about props and set up. here you could post your results as well as ask tech questions.

I think it would be a great idea. It would make those "manual" searches go quicker.

How about "Send in the Clones" for the forum about the copies?

just a thought, what about having the ask the experts broken down into 3 parts. you click on ask the experts then you could select
1. outboard
2. i/o
3. other

i don't know if that is possible or not.

it would be great to have a restoration and repair section, you could include waxing and that stuff in there too.

I like this idea also.

How about a Girls forum

No I don't mean a forum for posting pictures of girls (I know your thoughts on that Chris) but a section dedicated to trying and understand them. The amount of threads in that thread would always outnumber those of any boat-related forum

I think Chris E has an excellent idea with the sub-forums.

And Z, there is no way you'll ever understand girls. It's not humanly possible. They understand us, but we'll never understand them. And I'm an expert at that! 22 year marriage anniversary last night.........

The thing that helped me most, was a book that I can't remember the title to. Something about Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus? Check it out.

Subforums would be a neat idea. But I don't think it's possible to do with the software. At least if it is, I'm not familiar with how to do it!

How about this fellas....

For now....

We'll add a propping, setup and rigging forum. It will be for discussing props, setbacks, jacks, trim tabs etc.

And...perhaps we can get individual members to start model specific threads and post their setup and results. Meaning, we would have one Pulsare thread with all our Pulsare owners posting their results in the thread. We would ask members not to post messages or questions in the model particular thread, it would just be for posting setup results. If someone wants more info they could start a new thread asking about an individuals particular setup or use a PM. I'm not sure if we'll be able to keep people from posting questions...but it's an idea.

The second forum would be titled...

Overhaulin' and it would be for threads related to maintenance and repair. We could have the full blown restoration jobs like Gus' in there along with anything related to maintenance. Meaning waxing, gel coat repairs, carpet and interior work etc.

I think adding those two forums would be a good addition for now. We don't want to start too many as doing so can sometimes water down another forum too much. And, we can always add another forum down the road if it seems to make sense. The obvious first one being a I/O tech forum of some sort.

Your thoughts?

I second that.

Hey fellas.

Thanks for your feedback.

I've added two new forums. Overhaulin' and Props, Setups and Riggin'. I've started moving threads around trying to get things organized into where they fit best, but it will probably take a while as there is a lot to read through and then move.

Here is more or less where things should go.

Ask the Experts- Will be for discussing the repairing and maintenance of engines and powerplants, drives etc. So if it's engine related this is probably the place. Engine mods, drive questions, carbs, fuel delivery, electrical proglems, preventive maintenance all that kinda stuff, goes in here. Anything not related to will be moved.

Props, Setups and Rigging- Will be for discussing props, jackplates, trim tabs steering etc. The idea of this forum is that it will be for assisting members on different setups. It will also be for members seeking info on topics like chine walking, porposing, planing, cavitation, steering issues etc. Same deal, if it's not related to those topics it doesn't go in this forum.

Overhaulin'- Will be a forum for discussing topics related mostly to hulls and interiors. Things like gelcoat restoration and maintenance and customizing, interior maintenance repairs and replacement. As well as major restoration work such as stringers, transom and floors and the threads like Gus' that document complete restoration jobs. It will also be a forum for customizing work like paint and graphics etc. Sorta like our version of Pimp My Mate!

That does leave a few topics in the lurch that used to get placed in the old "Ask the Experts" forum. Things like questions about differences between different models, model values etc. Those types of topics were really never intended to be placed in the original tech forum to begin with, so I'll move those types of things over to the Play to Win forum.

Hopefully the changes will help to keep things organized and therefore easier to find and searach for. If anyone has any further feedback please feel free to post it here.

Enjoy the new forums.

Chris

Thanks for taking the time and effort to create the new forums... It takes a lot of work to manage this site, but we all appreciate it!!

Like you said, it will take a while to sort things out as to where they belong, but the solution you came up with is a welcome addition to an already great site.

there all good ideas for forums!
the one's that you picked chris would get used alot! great choice, and excellent work on the site!

I was looking in the showroom and noticed that there is a thread for almost each model of checkmate. i was thinking that it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have one in the picture this forum where everybody could post thier pictures of their boat. Each thread would be spacific for the starflites, enchanters, pulsares, predictors etc...
I think it would be neat to see all them together with all the specs listed...what do you guys think????

I would say just do it in the current picture this forum.

Someone start a thread for Pulsares and maybe each member can post one pic, hopefully their best one.

We have to be careful about starting too many forums, sometimes less is more.

With the showroom, originally the idea was that we were going to try to collect a bunch of pictures by model, almost like a registry of sorts...and we were also going to put brochure pics up. But most of the time people wanted their own thread with a bunch of pics, so it has just become a forum for factory pics and brochures for the most part. There are obviously some others, but for the most part it is what it is.

At the end of the day, I just don't have the time to do a lot of things I would like to do. So I just try to take care of what I can.
