I'm in the mid 70's I want 80mph+...ideas?

I agree, a worked 489 seems like a lot of motor for a 177, then there is the heat issue. EZstriper, were you always contemplating an alky kit, or just since this thread? Whipple seems to have a nice, compact and efficient blower, but I have no experience with them.
Yes alky can be used on an N/A motor, but it will not make more power, it would just be insurance against detonation. The power that alky makes on FI motor is by virtue of it cooling the intake charge and allowing more boost without detonation. I am actually thinking about doing a simple alky kit on my boat as insurance becuase I am running a lot of compression for a marine motor (insurance against bad gas or a bad tune, or both). I am going to start looking for a NOS carb plate to see if I can use that as the sprayer for a nice even distribution.

oh clown, i need some leg braces too, after the boat ride i got today. had go tangeir to fix heat on the big mail boat that leaves chrisfeild 12:30 pm. once i got there, cold front came through along with an ice storm, and for the first time in 30 years, i forgot the whiskey. might have been for the better cause ide not held no drink on the 3pm ride back to chrisfeild, when the white seas were coming over the 40 footer, and i couldnt see past the wind sheild. im froze to the bone, and sore as hell without no stand up seats like im going to have on my next project. i hope theres a day this coming summer when the conditions are like today, and with a couple day notice, ill invite you for a ride in my smilemaker 3. you like that mirage? shes 28', and trying to find motor covers. how many you want to see on it? outboards will be expensive on gas, but we dont care. 1/2 hour feels like all day. im home warming my insides right now, and us rednecks have the boats, just trying to not put the wrong grenade on that baby tunnel. hahaha

I talked to Tom at weiand, the 177 blower is a good choice for up to a mild 502 by what they said, and they are one of the oem blowers used by merc. when talking to him about his thoughts about alcohol/water injection, he said it would be a good idea given going to have to run marina pump gas, just gives you a little more margine of safty. I have built and run blown cars before and have even built my own water injection system years ago. Now these blowers are designed for mild engines with a max rpm of about 5500-5800, but thats right where you really need to be a marine engine. I originally was not going to run this set-up, but ran across the the rotating assy, all new but cheap from a guy who had got it all with a car, so I got a good deal on it, then found a lightly used complete blower set-up, so it all came together, rotating assy at machine shop being balanced now, dropping block off today to get cam bearing installed..we'll see.....Rob

Nice, That sounds like it will be a cool setup. Are you going to use teflon tipped rotors? I know that some blower manufacturers offer a hi-helix rotor upgrade that huffs more cfm and is more efficient, is that something Weiand offers? You have to snap some pics of your setup!!

Anyone that wants to go fast, buy my ZT that is for sale. If you think the price is steep I assure you it is not. Asking less than 50% of cost to build, and that does not include the tuning and trial and error swaps needed to perfect a set-up.
Sure there will be maintanence required, but one quick ride confirms that it is worth every minute and penny spent !!
