I'm starting to like Jet drives

As soon as you get it on the water, get a Place Diverter!!!
Manual or hydraulic control up and down of the nozzle. Put one on the cvx21 jet I used to have and you could not tell the wake from a stern drive, and as quick as you could throw the lever, go to 16 ft tall rooster tails(never run a 455 olds- I put 5 into that boat at 2500.00 each never got more than 20 hours out of one)

Thanks for the tips Dave it has the factory place diverter and ride plate on it now, hope I can salvage or rebuild the the pump. The plan is to build a big block chevy. They say the jet drives love mass torque. I know a nice man that was a Glastron dealer in the 70's. He told me that he has some goodies stored away that I am going to need and he will sell them to me.

Wicked,
My neighbor had the same jet boat about 15-20 years ago. I may be able to dig up an old pictures. His motor quit while at WOT and drove it into a wall. He was fine. The boat was in need of major repair. Good luck and keepus posted on the progress.

Thanks Adam that would be cool if you can dig up the Carlson pics. I feel kind of bad getting the Carlson. I really wanted to find a Jetmate but no way. I don't think you can find Checkmate jet boats for sale. The only one I have ever seen was a show quality custom and way way out of my price range. It seems like the Carlsons arn't that hard to find and I think they are one of the better looking older boats. I looked at a few Sidewinders and Cobrs Jets, a Baja is out of the question. It's kind of hard to find a cool classic jet boat with the motor under a hatch. Exposed engine boats are easy to find but the wife and 3 year old don't need to be close to hot pipes and spinning belts.

Find a good berkley repair shop, tell him how much horsepower the engine dyno's at and what max rpm you want and he should be able to set the impeller perfectly. The jet drive is IDLING at 6000 rpm---no limit to rpm except the ability to get enough water to the drive without too much drag.
Berkley's web site shows horsepower to rpm to impeller pitch chart if you plan to do the drive yourself. overhaul kits are reasonable.

the hull doesn't look to bad once you took the garden out of it!

The hull was the only good thing I found today. After a good wash down I started working on the garden. When I pulled the garden out of the boat the floof came out with it and exposed the swamp:yell: This boat is a mess!

Glastron

My older brother and I pulled the floor up on the cvx21 jet that I had and found the same thing. we ground everything down, and bought 2 2x12x20ft boards, and shaped them to fit the bottom from the engine stringers all the way to the front with one piece instead of the original sandwiched plywood,
looking back, I wish we would have made a cradle for it instead of relying on the trailer to support the bottom. After we laid the floor back down, we filled all the openings with expanding foam to help stiffen it up. that was way more work than I thought before we started.

Nice one wicked

Nice find man. That is a cool looking boat. Ive had a few Glastrons and I cant say I was dissapointed at all. They definitely handle better than my checkmates do. I cant wait to see how this turns out.

:cheers

Thanks Boston, I know it will never be fast. 55 or so with a big block is the best I think it will do. I expect it will be a good rough water boat and I'm sure it will make a bunch of noise and throw a good jet blast.

I like it. :thumb: Lots of rot makes it come apart easier. It looks like you could almost polish the outside back up.

This is going to be way harder than the 1 stringer system in the Enticer but I think I can pull it off over time. I don't have a garage to keep it is so it's going to be hard as heck to work on. I really don't want to paint it so a salvage job on the finish was what I had in mind. What do you suggest I do to save the top half. 600 wet then 1000 wet then compound then polish? Is that the best way to go? Thanks Coop!
