Your good, so they took a good idea and tried to make it better.

These hatches seemed like a good idea.

It does look based on a Trimate I.

I love the comments in the coastguard database.

"no way Jose"

I wonder if Mate sold them the hull mold and they developed their own deck. That seems to be what Mate does. If you notice, there is a upsweep on the gunnels where the rails termininate. The Trimates don't have that detail, and the deck on this boat also doesn't have the same detail in the bow area (round inlays) as the original Checks did.

I had heard a story years ago, I'm not too sure if it's true or not. Perhaps Coop or one of the factory guys can confirm it. The story was that basically there was a pretty good fire at the factory in the mid 70's (not the first) and that the TRV molds went up in it and they were destroyed. So the Trimate was actually a reworked TRV. I would assume they used a TRV and developed a new plug from it and did some updates to the design and that became the Trimate line.

A bad copy is what it is. Not sure but I think the hull is from a mx15 or something like it. I think I will keep my trimate.:bigthumb:
