July 4th and 8th - Greenwood Lake, NY

Just throwing it out there that I will be out on both those days.

On the 4th there is a parade and bed races in the village so I won't be out until sometime after noon but we will be out for some R&R on the beach in Charlie's Cove.

On the 8th we will be heading out sometime after noon and heading over to the cove again.

Unfortunately I will be away on July 7th and that is the day that there will be a DJ at the town beach from 6pm and the town fireworks will be at the town beach at dusk. Of course the fireworks are probably best viewed from the water and if you want to hear the DJ you can probably get near enough the beach for that as well. There is a sandbar just a bit west of the beach where its only a couple of feet deep if you can find a spot to slip in. If anyone wants to check the festivities out on Saturday I won't be around but have at it!

Anyone interested in meeting up on the two days I will be around let me know.

We might be up for the 4th.
Am I allowed bring the dog to Charlies Cove? :)
He might get his first day out in the boat that day so we're not tied to getting back early.

We might join you on the 4th. Sorry to say we'll be out of town on the 7th. Doing my part to support the dive industry in Maui. (insert "crying" icon here)

Diving in Maui huh? Where in maui are you staying? I can give you a few secret spots to go check out:cheers:

Sounds good. Fortunately all of you are thinking about the 4th because I completely forgot I am going to see Roger Waters on the 7th so I will be shooting for getting out on Sunday the 8th instead, probably around noon. I'll shoot Robbie a PM and see if he can fix my original post.

Why, you afraid you'll pick up too many frequent flier miles?

Since I'm sure you want to go boating and not watch a parade here in town I would say set things up with Sim and Kris. I won't be done with the parade until noon so I'm figuring 1pm to be in the boat and ready to roll. I know Sim and Kris have launched from Cove Marine before. I prefer the grounds at Willow Point:

http://www.willowpointmarina.com/

They are a part of the Baker Marina Group which have 3 places down along the NJ shore. Maybe you know someone on the inside? In any case, I have friends that work as mechanics there and the company takes good care of my friends so I always recommend that marina.

If you meet up with Sim and Kris they know their way around the lake pretty well. Its only 7 or 8 miles long so it doesn't take long, there's a few places to avoid south of the NY/NJ state line but that's about it. I'll just keep an eye on what you guys plan and will meet up with you all. I'm hoping to work 6a-2p on the 3rd so I can splash the boat the night before and if the forecast looks good I can leave it in.

The dog should be no problem as long as he gets along with other dogs. There's often a dog or two there throughout the day.

My condolences to you Sim. How will you ever bear the hardship of diving in Maui? :D You make the 3rd person I know that is heading there that weekend. My buddy's wife and her daughter are going island hopping as are a guy I carpool with and his wife. I should have you guys get together with Colleen, she's great people and a lot of fun. You guys would have a great time together.

Spencer / Sim,
I'll try to be there by 10am also.
I suspect a busy day at ramps.

We can get to Charlies Cove and grab some space (or all the space)!

My dog is far too laid back to hassle or be bothered by other dogs.
It's just his 90lb size that makes people think otherwise.

I'm thinking of putting in at West Milford (nj)which is about 25 minutes closer by car and then boating over to the other side. Marina there can also handle more boats and trailers.

We can talk about it on the 4th. I'll bring some dive and snorkeling maps for you as well. I have been there several times and found some cool spots after speaking with some locals.

Kris- I'll bring the stuff you left on the big boat:thumb:

Its about 5 minutes from the marina in WM to the one you guys used on the NY end last time. If you do launch from the NJ end it'd probably be from Mooshead or Sportsmans. Either way be VERY careful when coming and going from that end, there are stumps that are unmarked between that island and the shore line. Go directly out perpendicular to shore and make a left or right when you're about 150 feet from the large island.

I know the way the GPS sent Sim up last time and it was not the quickest way from the south. I can post the way I would suggest to go if anyone would like me to.

Please bring that fabled 4 blade prop you keep speaking of... I would like to give it a shot:thumb:

I checked from Moorestown and Google Maps said to take 206 up to 287. I hope that is going to be the best way for you Spence because the directions I have will be from 287.

Directions:

287N to exit 55
Right at end of ramp onto 511
511 about 17 miles
Make right onto 210 (you will go down a dip with a bridge then a diner will be on your right and you will turn onto 210 just before the Exxon station)

That road runs up the west shore of the lake. You will pass several marinas along it. If one is full just keep going to the next one.

One of the first you'll pass is Moosehead, then Sportsman's, then Greenwood Lake Marina, and after that will be Willow Point, Long Pond, and finally DeFeo's Cove Marina which is the last before you reach the village of Greenwood Lake, NY.

Taking that route will cut out some of the mountains on the northern part of 287 as well as the mountain off of the next exit and it is pretty much the shortest route to boot. I should know as I have been going from here to central NJ for 22 years now and it also avoids Speed Trap Central a.k.a. Tuxedo/Ramapo, NY.

When I Googled the trip from Moorestown or Princeton it sent me that way anyway but your GPS may have other ideas. Once you exit at exit 55 it should quickly figure out what you are trying to do.

Looking forward to Wednesday and still holding out hope that I may be able to wrangle Thursday and Friday off for a 5 day weekend. :D

Oh, and I will bring my 24 4 blade along for you to give a whirl if you'd like. Its an OMC but it should fit the Merc as well.
