Hi everyone.:banana: I recently got a checkmate from my dad a couple years ago and have suddenly got an insane drive to restore it! I love everything about it ( especially the 235 hp Erude motor)...so I was hoping you guys could give me some extremely helpful info. { one, what model/year is this checkie? I'm guessing an 83' Enticer?}. { two, motor year? Again guessing 78/79 evinrude 235 hp...I only know the hp as of now.} below I'll be posting plenty of pics ( I've been checking out the site for weeks and I know how pics are a huge plus):thumb:...the past week I just began ripping up the floor since its pretty rotted and also cranking the motor( suprisinly started after 5 years of sitting in yard) anyhow I did the unthinkable newbie error today.i accidently sawed into the hull down very close to where the trailer brackets are, about 18 inches:brickwall::brickwall:...beyond dumb but I saw some restores here and had no idea just how shallow this checkmate is!!:pissed: sorry for the boatload :D of questions. I'll look forward to all advice thanks everyone!

Okay thanks, Jumbo. Yea i was getting confused because the early 80's models look pretty close in design.... ill try to figure out the year along with the engine. Although i think Evinrude only made these big motors in 78 ' 79'....My huge concern is still the saw cut i put on the bottom of the hull. If anyone could provide some info for me to close that up strong n well id appreciate it:poke:
 
last 2 numbers of the HIN are the year (serial number on transom)

You will probably have water issues with the hull and balsa core on this boat. Balsa is like a sponge and the fact there is a saw cut, you exposed it to the elements. The only way to fix it is to fiberglass it back together. If balsa is wet, the floor and stringer will have to come out as well as the wet balsa. All will have to be replaced and put back together. Not a hard task but time consuming non the less. There are plenty of us that have done core replacement so grab some beers and start reading! :cheers:

Thanks everyone,you're much appreciated.:cheers: ill be sure to keep posting pictures as i keep restoring it.Its raining today so hopefully tomorrow ill keep at it ( i have alot of time off this summer from work)
"nice project! Better lube the drive on starter." Thanks Paulboats, are you referring to the engine starter?and if so , do i lube the rotating shaft of the starter only? i Cant wait to see what top speeds i get this mate' up to once shes all set :D:D:D:D
 
Gas tank appears to be in good shape considering this boats been a yard piece for years. took a flashlight and looked inside, looks clean. 2012-07-25_11-54-05_412.png , My Boat (garden also ) floor soaked so next pics will be it all out:thumb::thumb: 2012-07-25_13-26-11_876.png
