Lakes/rivers with campsites in tri-state area

Can anyone recommend some boating locations by lakes or rivers in the tri-state area?
Hoping for 2-3hrs from northern NJ.

I know Wallenpaupack PA is one option, but looking to consider others as I don't Wallenpaupack will allow pets at their campsites.

Thinking of getting away this weekend for an overnighter or two with the family and tent if we can find somewhere that suits.

Raystown lake Pa. Nancy's boat to shore is tent only. You can only get there by boat. They allow pets & since its not a state park you can have booze. Its probably more than 4hrs though. The resort is having fireworks sun. night & is about 6 miles away by water.

Northampton Campground on Sacandaga allows pets but you must bring their rabies certificate :

Not sure if you'll be able to get a site on such short notice on a holiday weekend though. Get a site along the arm that juts into the campground if you can but don't get one too far in this time of year because the lake will be low and there may not be water in there. I know another member is heading up there this weekend as he pm'ed me about the lake.

There's also a state campground up on the Hudson near Catskill but on the opposite side of the river. They have docks and a ramp. The Hudson is not so big up there and better suited to our small boats. Short boat ride up to Albany as well for some site seeing. I'll see if I can find the details on that one for you as well.

Slow day at work today.

John

Thanks guys.

Raystown might be a bit far this time round, but is definitely on the bucket list.

John - I'll research those links when my work day slows in a few hours :thumb:

Looking at that last campground I linked to has me wanting to get up there this fall. Maybe for a Friday and Saturday night in October if I don't go down to Ocean City for the offshore finals. Only 60 mike's from me, probably a tick over 2 hours for you. I'd love to check out the fall foliage on the Hudson.

there might be something in south jersey along the Mullica river, its in the pinelands and the jersey devil lives there so camp at your own risk , but it really is an awesome area to camp and explore. you would never know your in jersey.

Its QTM down there. Quad, Truck, Mudding.

Used to go down near Millville/Port Elizabeth to ride. Used to make 3 or 4 day weekends out of it since it was so big. Of all the places we can't ride/camp anymore I miss that the most. Party in a sand pit at night, ride the trails and fire roads during the day and ride to a swimming hole when it got too hot.

For the Fall trip I was thinking of launching in Stony Point and heading north. Stuyvesant might be a bit far north by boat then - the tears may have left frozen trails along each side of my face :rof:

that was such a great place I was there quite often also in the early 80's. there was the 100 ft hill that every one would try and climb with 4 x 4 trucks it was almost a straight up incline . I think after all the wrecks is when the state police really started clamping down , so yes maybe I was part of the problem back then. but in my defense we were rarely sober when we were there

Snowmobile suit and goggles :thumb: Seriously though, keep me posted, I may trailer down. Could be nice if we get some good fall weather.
