groucho, I agree that a big rooster is not ideal for top end speed but that's not the title of this post. ;) My Mate (and all Starflites/Starliners) requires a lot of bowlift to achieve max speed. As you can see from my photos I am getting quite a bit of lift with a large tail. My record speed with this boat (last season) is 62.8 on GPS. That was with a 13.5" 23p 4 blade Renegade Bass spinning 6200 or so. In the pics here I am running a 14.25" 24p 3 blade Raker at 5400. I saw 58.8 on GPS during these photos. I call that a small difference in speed for a nice show. :)

But yes, in general a smaller tail is faster/more efficient.
