Mercury 1700 hp Race Version

Viper 1

Well-known member
Mercury will debut a "1700HP Race Version" of the engine based on the 1350 Twin Turbo architecture during the 2013 Miami Boat Show. This 1700HP race version will require race fuel as it will not be designed to run on normal pump gas. This is sure to up the ante in the the performance engine wars as Mercury Racing has thrown down the gauntlet to it's challengers, if there are any! Have a Great Day and Best Wishes Always Sammie Action Marine

I wondered how long it would be until someone boosted that engine up......IMO 1350 hp is on the conservative(reliable pump gas) side for what that engine could potentially make. I imagine that someone could have some tunes eventually to put her in the 1450-1500 hp range also. That is the beauty of turbos.

WOW that is freakin awesome! Especially for a "factory" motor!
It seems that when the 1100/1350's came out there was some discussion on whether it would be faster to have one in a 270/259 or 2 in a 283/300...
Ok now I guess we gotta bench race these motors.
And my stupid n/a promod motor barely idles, runs best on race gas and currently only runs 80.:brickwall:
There is nothing in this world like boost!

I guess all the people who just got their MTI's and Cig's with twin 1350's gotta order new boats. LOL

Crazy money

This is all really interesting to me given how much money is involved to have these in a boat.

They have that packaged with the M8 drive. They only way to get that drive is to buy a 1350 or 1700 so there are not many out there yet. Mercury has tested the drive and is confident in it, but some of the buyers may not be. Some may want to put shaft/surface drives behind those motors to increase reliability. Maybe some of the boat manufacturers with some pull at Mercury will be able to get the motor without the M8 drive?
Given that most will be sold in pairs, I wonder how many will be sold each year. I've read Mercury is very happy with the sales # they have on the 1350's so far.
I wonder if anyone is getting them(1350) for less then the >$200,000 list price? I wonder how well warranty issues will be handled?

Awesome package! I remember when 1hp per cubic inch was a big deal,
as in 283 cubic inch and 283 hp.

Mercury is out of control with their prices. Bill (check253) has his twin turbo motor and with some changes made this season is making the same power. I believe he said the market price is around 1/2 the price of this motor. Mercury has produced a market monopoly in which they gouge the consumer and dick them on warranty. A prime example of this is the header issues. They specified a sub grade stainless. When it failed and water reversion ruined the motors, merc denied warranty claims...... .:pissed:
I personally would build my motor as you get better parts for way less money!
