Motor Cover Latch

Hello All,

I am a new member here and have just purchased a 1985 21' Checkmate Ski Boat (mint condition, except latches). I am looking for 2 replacement boat motor cover latches or an alternative replacement. I am hoping someone might be able to direct me to to the parts I am looking for. It doesen't appear that this site allows pics so if someone thinks they can help, let me know and I can email the pics direct.

Sorry, for the delay in posting. I personally have never seen a latch like this.

Those are the same latches I have on my mate. I called Mike at Checkmate a couple of years ago for replacements and he was unable to help me.
Let me know if you find anything close or a better replacement and I'll do the same.

Are you sure that's the motor cover? Looks to me like the same latches I have on my Starliners rear deck hatches.

Yup, those are also used on the engine hatch. I have been nursing mine for the last few years until I can fine a good replacement.

maybe glass the holes up and add some straps like the hopped up 2.5 motors?

When I needed to replace mine I called Mike at Checkmate and told him the year and model of mine and they sent me new ones and they fit and are installed looking good.

Those are 100% enchanter hatch latches I would have to check the next time I am at the local marine store but I thought they had something that would work.

What is wrong with the latches? The one in the pic looke to be in great shape, minus the lock. I would think that you could just replace the lock???

Now here is the thing about those latches. That size was discontinued at the endo of 85. The engine hatch was already made for that size so what checkmate did for 86 was an aluminum trim bezel.....

Now since I repainted my boat for the resto it was no big deal to replace with anything I wanted and glass the hole up.


But..... I KNOW you don't want to repaint so the trim bezel idea or a new set of locks is your only way to go.

Again, I will check to see if the ones I saw at Hern Marine will work next time I am up there and if so, I can get you a part #!

By the way, the ones in Bryan's top picture look EXACTLY like the cooler hold down covers on the Starflights/Liners so maybe if you order a set like those it'd be really easy to stamp out a set of aluminum plates. Heck, if you send me the dimensions you need I could probably get one of the sheet metal guys at work to step a few out in about 10 seconds. You'd probably just need to jigsaw out the hole in the middle for the new latch.
