Hello all. My name is Scott, from Redford, MI (right outside detroit). I am 23 years old. I am a mechanic for Honda (cars).

I recently traded off a 3 wheeler I had, for a new project. A 1986 Checkmate Sportfire with a 4.3L OMC and OMC/Cobra outdrive. The title says its a 19ft, but after doing some hours of research I have only been able to find 17ft's. I really need to measure this boat.

Again with my searching I stumbled upon this community, so I am hoping to gain some knowledge on foresight on some project ideas I have, that you will see around in the other parts of the website.

So hello to everyone, see you around the boards!

Welcome Scott, where's about do plan to use that sportfire. My first was a sportfire O.B. and I believe it was titled as a16 ftr. Good luck! merrc245 from goood ole' downriver area!

Yo Scott

Welcome to the Board, great to hear that your gonna bring that Sportfire back to life. I've never measured my Sportfire but I believe that the factory spec. for the length is 16' 7'' Although the I/O's might be different than the OB's.

Wecome to the michigan boating scene. St. Clair cna get rough fast for a 16 foot boat. It's great during the week but weekends are hell on your body. Shallow lakes get rough quick from boat wakes. Non-the-less enjoy.

welcome

Welcome to the board. My first boat (all of one year ago!) was a sportfire OB and as mentioned it was a 16'7" boat. The MI registrations go by length - not sure if there's a cut off between 17 and 19' but if there is, it may be worth correcting the title.

My observation from belleville lake on a crowded day is that you'd be fine if you are out with the guys. I had to go bigger because of the little ones - the sportfire got through it all well, but not smoothly. It is very wide for a boat that size with (I thought) made it feel pretty stable - just bumpy.
