Hey guys i recently purchased a 1995 Checkmate Convincor 253, my 2nd boat but first checkmate! I love the boat and took delivery of it today and took it out all day, this boat handles amazing and takes the rough water awesome! It has the bravo 1 7.4L motor with corsa captains choice exhaust which sounds awesome as well. I am really looking for a little more performance out of it and was wondering if anyone has any Recommendations on props or any other performance mods as carbs, intake manifolds etc; Thanks guys and here is a pic from this weekend, another quick thing...anyone know any tip to getting bottom paint off or think i should just paint over the black with some white bottom paint?

What numbers are you seeing with your set up now?
What is your set up now?
If you search {bottom paint remover} there are products out there to strip that crap off with out hurting the gel coat.

:welcome: The fun starts after the bottom paint comes off. You get to wetsand and buff and polish the whole bottom.

Well water wasn't to smooth this Sunday and i had full tank of gas along with 1 passenger...saw 50mph on GPS with trim all the way down. Not sure about the pitch of the prop but will check this weekend. Just wanted to know if anybody has any rec's for a good prop that may pick up a few MPH up top.
Welcome, where in NC are you? (we are a pretty wide state)

I boat at Lake Gaston, live in Raleigh.

Welcome! If you want help propping it you've gotta tell us what the RPM, MPH, and curreent prop are first.

No problem i understand, i know i was seeing 5,000 rpm's with current prop...i'm guessing it's a stock pitch, will prop say pitch on it or do i need to look for a part number than reference that?

Most will have the pitch stamped on them.
What hp 454 do you have?

The 310HP version i think....carb'd motor if that makes a difference, i will really look over all the specs on boat this weekend when i remove bottom paint, thank's for all the help so far though...not new to boating but new to these boats and modification's on them.

If you where running 50 mph with the trim all the way down, if you trim it up it will gain atleast 10 mph or more.

Damn that is nuts, never knew you could gain that much with trim adjustments...i know it'll pick up a few but i will have to try this next weekend for sure!

At 50 mph and you trim it up, it will feel like you kicked the four barrel in. The boat will lift out of the water and take off.

Seems like your new to the trim thing, Becarefull when learning to trim the boat it will handle very different an light feeling. This is where your gonna need seat time and getting to really know your boat. If you hit a big wake with the trim up going fast you will be air born.

The boat you have to get its highest speeds needs 1-2 foot of nice chop and trimmed up. That boat runs slower on smooth water. Get your boat up to 50 mph trim it up till it scares the crap out of you then back it down a hair.

HERE IS A PIC OF MY THE 242 I HAD,, TRIMMED UP

Sounds good man, yea the only other boat i've had was a 21 foot little outboard custom sport boat with a 2.5 merc....it would fly! But it was very unstable and only weighed about 2k lbs. I will def. mess with the trim and see what i can do, this boat feels very stable so i don't think it will scare me too much as i drive a corvette everyday and have had multiple street bikes as well. I really respect boats and the water so i will be careful and only push it as far as i feel comfortable. I will test it out later this week or maybe this weekend and see what i can get outta it.

Trimming it up is diffently holding you back alot. Your basically pushing the bow thru the water. You want to trim it up to lift the bow and have as little as possible in the water. I haven't mentioned that yet because I'm concerned your turning 5000 trim all the way down. Your rpms are gonna raise as you trim up and your already at max rpm. This is why I was wondering prop size, I think you might need to go up a pitch or two so you can trim up and still stay with in 5000 rpm.
