Newbie with question- 78 enchanter

Sir Jim bob

New member
Hello everyone. I'm wondering if y'all can help me out. I recently purchased a '78 enchanter...I think. It is an I/O. However I really can't seem to find any others online. Is this just really rare, or do I have the wrong information?

Thank you for any input.

First of all :welcome: to the site!! I have an Enchanter I/O myself, mines an '86 (my sig pic). Now i could be completly wrong on this but i beleive the first year of the Enchanter is '79, don't quote me on that tho! If the boat is a '78 it might be a Convincer (yes convincer with an "er" on the end instead of the bigger modern Convincors that came around later in the 80's). I know the early Convincers do look pretty similar to the Enchanter, does the boat have a closed bow? Again, i might be way off, '78 could be the first year of the Enchanter, i'm not trying to be a know-it-all lol! Anyways, either way you got a cool boat on your hands!! What kinda shape is it in?? You'll find tons of good info around here!

I'm rebuilding a 78 enchanter. Its the outboard version, might be a late 78, not sure, but the I.D tag says its a 78. They must have come out prior to 79. Thanks

Kevin

Thanks! Yes it does have a closed bow. It looks very much like yours, just not as sexy. The gelcoat is rough and unsalvageable. Chevy 350 needs hooked up, needs manifolds. It's gonna take some work, sometimes I wonder if it's worth it. Is the any way to identify with the vin number?

Call Checkmate 419-562-3881 ask for Kip or Mike in parts.. Give them the vin and they will tell you what you have... We like pics.... Gelcoat can be wet sanded... :welcome:

My second enchanter (outboard) HIN said it was a 78. However it was a 1979. I believe that 1979 was the first year of production but they started making them in late 1978. What is the length of the boat? You look at my build thread "bought a real basket case enchanter" for pics. They didn't change at all until a different dash layout for its last year in 1988.

I wondered what last year of the Enchanter was, i always thought it was '87, but i've heard others say '88 too. The Enchanter doesn't show up in either the '87 or '88 brochures. The only difference i see from all the years of the boat, the early Enchanters didn't have the vinyl pads on the engine hatch. Other wise, nope the Enchanter never really changed, why change what was perfect from day one! So do you have any pics of the boat?? And yes, once you get the boat on the water it will be well worth it!!

It happens all the time on the auto industry, cars made from about July are tagged as next years model year. I wouldn't be surprised if boats work the same way.
