Outboard Fuel filter

83PREDICTOR

Well-known member
I have a 1992 115 Johnson

I am the A$$ that ran my boat out of gas last weekend on the river. Ever since (after I filled-er up) the engine will not run as well and sometimes stall. So I am guessing that I picked up all of the junk in the bottom of the tank.

There is a fuel filter under the cowling just before the carb. Is this filter a specific filter for this engine? Specific micron rating? Do I need to get one from the OMC dealer or can I pick up a fuel filter from Lowes?

Also, has anyone ever used that carb cleaner that you spray into the carbs as the engine is running? Dose it work at all.

Thanks in advance:cheers

Once you solve you proplem get your self a fuel filter/water seperater. Its like a spin on oil filter for your car. Your origianal out lay of cash apx. $70 then a new canaster every spring apx. 7 bucks. Any future proplems eliminated.:o

83predictor, you can replace the filter under the cowling with any automotive filter of about the same size. Go to Autozone, oreilleys, Advance auto etc. and get one near the same size just for fitment. There is no specific micron rating. Some tanks have a small screen on the bottom of the fuel tank pickup, you might want to check that also and make sure it's not clogged. DO NOT use spray type carb cleaner thru the carbs it dilutes the oil (it has no oil in it) in the fuel and can destroy your engine with just a few small blasts.
