Pulsare top speeds

Might not be measuring that correctly? I had the 6" CMC mounted to the back of my 2100, and with the 20" 225 promax/torquemaster I could put the propshaft even with the pad. But then again, mine was a '95 and the top bolt holes were right below the splashwell bottom. How far below the splashwell bottom is your top mount holes?

Now when I put my 10" HD RapidJack on with only 4" of verticle travel, then I couldn't get the propshaft even with the pad but I didn't care because I didn't need that height anyway (with only 225 horse and a light weight motor).

The bottom of the well to the pad is 24". The plate can only get 2.5 inches from the top due to the boats top cap. Then if you consider the transom angle, the plate tilts downward. It will work with the side pickup mptprs, just not if you want to get the motor up above 3.5 inches below the bottom.

Here's pic taken just after I mounted the 10" RapidJack HD. I had the jack all the way up, with the motor mounted down in the second hole. Only 4" of travel with this jack.

With the motor in the second hole and the jack all the way up, I was about 2" below the pad splitting the propshaft. I could have easily split the pad by mounting the motor in the top hole.

I'm guessing this jack has more 'rise' than the one you're looking at then Wildman. How does it look?

Hey guys, check with you local merc shop,,there is a recall bullitin on recalibrating the tpi on the merc 225's. Mine originally had a slight hesitation and wasn't reaching full rpm. All fixed with quick trip to the shop and for free!!<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Originally posted by JW:
JKieper, my buddy's 225 EFI 3.0 does not hesitate out of the hole. The reason my Promax could take him out of the hole was prop size and gear ratio. I had 6500 rpms to play with (Promax) and he only had 5800 rpms (standard fishin' motah). I had 1.87:1 gears, and he has 1.62:1 gears. So I had lower ratio gears AND shorter pitch prop, so mine spun up much quicker and had more low-end torque, despite being .5 liters smaller displacement.

So you know of 3.0 225 EFI motors that hesitate out of the hole? Something wrong there, like maybe the TPS is mis-adjusted? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I just found out that it's all the 95-96 3.0L that are that way. After that they don't seem to have it.

Hi Richard,

My forum name is “SL” not “SGL” as I had stated earlier this summer. Sorry about that. . . “SGL” is a forum name that have used on other forums. If you read through the above posts you will see that I have made a number of posts.

The boat is running great

So far my best speed is still 91.7. Things have been busy at work and with the moving just haven’t had much time on the water. Hope all is well at the marina, sometime in October I will be bringing the boat up for the scheduled engine check and winterization. Hi to Dan and Kent.

Steve

I agree w/ SL. The best I saw with my 2100BR/ 300X was 91-92 on a GPS speedometer. I thought there might have been a few more mph left in fine tuning the set-up.... but not 100 mph.

Hi SCT,

Hope that all is well with you

If you read the above posts towards the beginning you will see that we will have to agree to disagree. . . I am the one that said with the right driver the boat will go 100.

The mechanic that set up the boat (thefix) and a race driver saw 102 on a hand held GPS. I have seen 91 on my GPS running a 25” prop. The boat runs in the low 90’s without being at WOT. I believe given enough seat time that I will see 100 on the GPS; when I get it there I will take video.

Hey SCT and SL, any time you take a 21' V-bottom over the 90 mph mark safely is quite an acomplishment!! My hats off to you both. I've been in a 45' single canopy Fountain race boat at 127+ mph; unbelievable thrill but does not compare to the white knuckles, heart pounding, adrenaline rush of running a small outboard powered boat on edge!!! Congrats! Steve

Hey Jupiter
Don't you have a post going on S and F where a guy says he saw 104 MPH with his Starflite? Here's his quote:

"I used to drive an '87 21' Starflite w/ a Yam 225 Excel, before switching to a 200 Merc carb. I ran a 27" 2nd Effort OTH 3 blade chopper on the Yam and a 26" thru-hub Yamaha prop on the Merc, with , w/ both motors set up 2 1/2" high on the transom, Bob's nose cones, w/ low water pu on the Yam. The Merc got out of the hole ok, but had a top of 72 mph @ 6650 rpm. The Yam had a top of 74 mph @ 6200 rpm.
Here's the important part: I switched to a Merc 300 big-block on a 10" fixed setback, and had a custom-made prop from 2nd Effort with 33"P 13.25" diameter, OTH stern lifter similar to a Trophy. The boat would chine walk hard pushing through 65-75 mph, but then settle down to a nice small bow oscillation and scream right up to 104 mph, recorded on radar in Assawoman Bay near Ocean City by a buddy with the MD Department of Natural Resources (who was in fact screaming as we flew past the channel marker he was shooting the radar at)."

What do you guys think?

I hope that a stock Pulsare is capable of 100 Plus. But I would think to do that, you would need more than 300 Ponies, and possibly a wider pad.

Why one particular Pulsare is running 102 with a similar setup to others who are running in the low 90's is a bit of mystery.

SCT has had a number of Pulsare's and a ton of different Mates and he is a very capable pilot and he has only hit low 90's.

But man....I hope it's True! Like I said earlier, they'll be a bunch of guys chasing the same setup and results.

Hey Mark, I don't recall anyone responding to any of my posts on S&F with a 104mph starflite??? but it could exist. I have a thread on Pulsare Setup that has over 10 pages...it could be buried in there!!! I think Randy "Wildman" is going to become the Pulsare Guru with his setup. Huge setback and the resources to fine tune. I wish I had the $$$$ for a 300X, more setback, a seastar "Allison" ram, and a few new props and I'd chase the elusive tripple digit myself!! (of course with a lifevest, helmut, killswitch, and some big balls!!!)

Ya, it's there, page 8. Someone by the name of Fr.Frank. I'm happy to let someone else chase the triple digits, but I do like to read about it.

I've been up to 75 mph in boats up to 21', I've been up to 90 mph in boats up to 32', and I've been over 127mph in a 45' Fountain. The feeling of security is alot greater in bigger boats at speed than the toys we play with on a day to day basis. There is no comparison to running a small boat on edge...you can feel every imput by the seat of your pants...you just don't get that kind of feeling in a big offshore boat...not that they're not exciting...It is an unbelievable feeling when you launch a 9500 pound, 37' monster off of a 6' swell.
icon_eek.gif
, you just feel more secure in all that glass. Hit a 2' swell in a 21' Pulare at 70 mph and if you're not holding on to something you may find yourself somewhere else..not necessarily in the boat!!!

Just ran 68 mph gps on sunday, 88 degrees, full tank of gas, 2 adults and 2 teens, full cooler. Could have possibly gone faster but the "safety concious" adult in me over powered the "top speed ego" child in me and I backed out of it. My passengers were a little skittish at that point!

All in the name of good fun...I got my speed jollies and they got a thrill ride!!
