Pulsare top speeds

I've been in NY for the last week. I'm going to put the Fleetmaster on it this week and try to take it out. The Sportmaster was too sloww, and my rpm's were only 6100. 800 too low.

With a 27 4 blade Hydromotive, it ran 82.7 at 1-1.5 inch below the pad. Rides high on the pad and is a real handful to drive with just me in the boat. With two people, it was pretty easy. I could only run around 80 by myself due to not being able to open it up all the way. I'll try the Fleetmaster this week probably.

IF it was chine walking a lot, bleed bleed bleed that steering system.................

Wildman with a 27" prop, 1.62 gear ratio, 6100 RPM, at 82.7 MPH your prop slip calculates out to 14%, why is your slippage so high?

I was wrong. The prop I was using was a 28 Drag 4, made by Performance Propellers. It looks like the Hydromotive, but it's an overhub prop.
My steering has no play in it. I'm sure part of the problem was That I've never driven a Checkmate, or even ridden in one for that matter. I know how to drive a pad V though. Just takes getting used to I guess.
JT what setup and prop are you using, and what speeds you running?

Hi Wildman, 28” would make the slippage 17%?

I just noticed your calculations were with a 1.62 gear. I was running a 1.75

Hey Randy, one thing that'll help learn to drive a Checkmate V-pad is the gas tank. Fill that bad boy up FULL to the brim. The lighter the CMate gets the looser it runs. When I first learned to drive my 17' Pulse I had a terrible time until I had a full tank of gas and 4 passengers. With all that weight, I learned to drive it, then slowly worked the weight off until I could hang on to that bad boy with nobody on board and no gas left in the tank..................

Hey Randy,

You've been driving those boats (cats) with the training wheels on for to long........ you forgot how to drive a V-pad!

Good luck with the 2100,
SCT

Wildman ought to like that one!

SCT... what was your top numbers in your Pulsare 2100 BR with the 300X after break-in and seat time? What was the final set-up (set-back, motor height, gear ratio, prop, etc.)????

JW... EXCELLENT TIP!!! You are SO CORRECT!!!

Hi Randy,

With the 1.75 gear ratio your slip calculates to 7%, much better, 14% is way to high for a performance boat.

Just read your article Randy Corson's Flamed Extreme Liberator 18
at Scream and Fly – nice paint job

LOL. . . you sure don’t want to do that with a V-pad

Hey Randy, although I have no where near the power your boat has the best way I've found to drive the Pulsare is to keep the trim tucked in while raising the jack plate. Keeping the bow down while stabbing the throttle and then small tap ups on the trim have helped in controlling the chine walk until the boat frees up on the pad. Keeps it challanging and fun!!! Too much positive trim and she'll dance like crazy!!!

I'm taking it out Friday for an 80-90 mile run on the St. Johns River. There's a big hot boat get together this weekend. Probably 70-80 go fast outboard boats. I'll take the twin motor 21 cat boat Sat. and the mate Friday.

I finally ran my boat again yesterday with the Fleetmaster with a nosecone. I used a 27 Trophy which I thought would work well. I ended up running it up even or slightly above the pad which brought me to 87 mph. A Trophy is not a good surfacing prop, so I'll have to try some of my tunnel boat props next time. Guys running with me, said only the last 18" of the boat were in the water. Well, I'll try again this week.

Hey Randy, 87 mph on GPS is very respectable. How was the handling?? Wouldn't a Tempest plus be a better prop for top end numbers???

I have a 27" Tempest Plus that I will let go CHEAP! I would be curious to see how much difference there is between it and the 27" Trophy. boatman

I ran the boat again today with a 28" Drag four. I'm disapointed, I was hoping for at least 90. I surfaced it even with the pad. Ran 87.9. I think I may just put a 225 Optimax on itand make it my family boat. It just don't run like a Liberator. I like da trainin wheels. I cruised in my 21 with twins all Saturday at 110-115 mph.
