RH vs LH Rotation...

Folks,

First and foremost, keep the replys out of the gutter. What is "normal" rotation? LH or RH? I'm assuming RH...

Second, what are the cons of using a non standard rotation motor in a single motor application? Is it unsafe? Are props a problem? Does it even matter?

On some boats, weight distribution might be a problem w- LH lower unit. Also, it limits your prop selection.
 
i have been told its personal preference, i know that bill(check253) is running a LH on his 300 convincor with huge power.....

I don't remember seeing a left hand prop on his boat, if I am thinking of the right boat. Twin turbo and #6 outdrive?

I was always told the helm was put on either side to offset the rotation of the prop, but after a certain speed, it shouldn't matter. It would take a heck of a man to offset 1000hp at a 100mph. Also, on most stern drives, the motor turns 1 way and the prop turns the other way. Looks like they would offset each other?
 
I don't think the rotational force of the motor has much if any impact on the attitude of the boat since its the prop that is twisting in the water. I could be wrong though.
 
Yes, it's the prop torque in the water that twists the boat, that's why the driver is put on the side of down rotation. the battery is typically on the right hand side, while the lighter weight oil tank is on the left (outboards boats)
