salt water or not to salt water

i am going to Edisto Island for vacation in June and i am thinking of taking the mate. i know nothing of salt water prep and salt water boating so i am wondering a few things. first, is there anything i need to do to the outboard to get it ready for its first taste (that i know of) of salt water. second, can it have salt water in its system for several days without being flushed. i am lazy by nature (on vacation especially). After the fact, how do i flush the motor of salt water when i am done with vacation and bring it back to the fresh waters of home.
thanks in advance.

I used to go to Edisto Beach every year after prom while in highschool. I'm from a small town called Walterboro, which is about 45 minutes from the beach. If you got an outboard flush the motor on muffs, wash the boat and trailer with pretty of soap and water. When you get back take the boat to a car wash, pressure wash the motor, trailer and boat.

!

Contrary to what many on this Site think, salt water is not DEATH. I don't boat in salt water with my Checkmate, but my fishing boat spent most of its time in the salt( before I sold it ).

Just make sure to flush the motor after every use and wash the boat when you get home.

Thats it!

thanks for all the input. guess if all goes well i will haul it with me. CM, i know exactly where you are. my wife is from orangeburg (branchville) and her family goes to walterboro quit often for shopping since orangeburg is not the safest town to shop in (or be caught in). actually, her and my motherin law stop in walterboro every year to stock up on food for the week on the way to edisto.

Small world!! I used to go to Branchville every year for railroad days festival. Your are right Orangeburg isn't the safest place even during the day.
