Some pictures finally

Oh Man, I can hardly stand it. (LONG pause). OK. I love the boat but what's up with the transom tie downs, bonus points for them being present but... . Otherwise, red boat, black motor, and Ford truck. Righteous.

Jim,
Thats a strap that goes over the stern of the boat and hooks on each side with a buckle in the middle to tighten. I just so happen to have the same thing.

Well i thought thats what it was. Upon a closer look, are they attached to the cleats.

I had them on the Transom until this Saturday, I had to move the boat back on the trailer to fit a swing tongue on the front to get it in the garage.

As soon as I can re-configure the tie downs on the trailer I plan to move them back to the transom.

Right now as is If I leave them on the transom the Buckles will be rubbing/touching the gel coat.

Is it not a good idea to use those cleats in the interm? (Thats actually how the PO had Them) Personally I like them better on the transom as I dont like the way it looks on the side. The Straps are likely long enough that I can hook them together in the middle.

All input is welcome. This is my first boat!

Nice looking rig!
Although its not text book to tie them to the cleats, its really not a big deal. I'm sure others may have a different opinion.

I have to tie mine with the cleats right now as the transom ties have been removed for transom work. My biggest concerns are that the cleats are not mounted nearly as solid as the transom ties.. They are mounted in glassed in blocks vs being bolted through the transom.. That and the higher risk of scratching the boat bothers me..

I cannot find the Chapter in the Checkmate owners and operators manual where the clearances from the sacred Checkmate gel coat must be adhered to just now, but in 'The Book of Jim', it is in Chapter 15, "Chain, wire, wire rope, rope, twine, string, straps, bunge cords, duct, scotch, electrical, or masking tape, zip ties, wire ties, female elastic type clothing (especially easy to find in, on, and/or around Checkmates, by the way), and other similar stuff that should be avoided while attaching rear of vessel to it's trailer for transport". Transom tie downs (TTD's) and their proper use is mentioned in this chapter also.
