Starliner question

Looking into upgrading from the enticer to a starliner. From my understanding these do not have pads. What speed could I expect from a merc 250 and how is handeling compared to a padded hull?

You'll probably get lots of opinions on this. The Starliner has a V shaped pad rather than a flat pad like an Enticer. The result is that it is not quite as fast as the same length in a Pulsare. The upside is that it handles the chop very well and has a very nice ride and great handling. It requires a 8-12" of setback, depending on the size of the motor, to get the enough bow lift as it has a small step and therefore will run flatter without it.
A 250 is the right motor for that hull. I think realistically you will see 70-75 mph with a 250 depending on setup, altitude and the actual horsepower of the 250. HO's and XS's are more than 250. My Starliner with a 250 Etec ran 70-72 with 6" setback as the Evinrude is rear heavy and doesn't need as much setback as a Merc. Seemed plenty fast enough. I loved it and once I got it set up exactly how I liked it... I sold it. Isn't that what we do?

For an all around boat mine does well with just 5.5 inches of set back. My 99 Merc 250 EFI pushes mine to 75 with the same 24 Trophy that I use to tube, ski, and haul around 6 adults and 2 kids without a problem.

I've had Pulsares and now a Starliner. The thing I notice the most about the Starliner is no chine walk.

I had a Pulsare and think it looks great but I like the old school look of the Starliner better. However, finding the best boat for the money is primary. Look for the cleanest example of a boat that you can afford.

It'll run alright but I don't think it'll go fast enough to require a lwpu and if it's a coned type lower it might actually hold you back some. Also, you'd want more set back with a lighter motor like that.

Thanks for the info guys. Still not sure what direction to go. Need to think this one out. Id like a pulsar but they seem pricey
