hey fellow members i just picked up a 97 model promax 200 for less than $1000 from a close friend that is carborated. i also have a 99 model vmax 200 in my shop that the block is smoked. my question is, if i can take all the intake and injection systm off the injection motor and put in on the carborated motor to help out fuel and performance. any advice on this matter would be apreciated. good or bad. thanks. i also have all the electronics etc.

so i guess no one has tried such a thing yet. well the best i can figure so far is that the starter must be switch from right to left. all the componets looks the same. would anyone here have a vmax 200 that runs. and can you send me a pic of the right and the left side without the cover on. Maybe up close. or know where i can find any books on these motors.

I may be missing something here, but isn't one a merc and the other a yammi? boatman

no sir. they are both yamaha. they are both a 200. one is a vmax and the other is a promax. the vmax is a 99 model and the promax is a 97 model. no merc at all. the vmax was all apart when i bought the boat. the block was sittin on the floor of the boat with a hole in the side. i am sorry if i mislead anyone. my explaintion is not always the best. i would like to take the fuel injection off the 99 model and put it on the 97 model. do you think it can be done.

P.S. i am sorry its not a promax. i mixed them up. it says pro v on the side of the cover for the 97 model. it says v max on the 99 model. i thought is said promax on the 97. my mistake, and now i feel like an idiot. hehehe. maybe to many adult beverages at the time i unloaded the mota

If it was a merc I'm sure you would be flooded with advice because alot of the power heads
are the same. You need to do some Yammy reserch, The years are not much different, Will it bolt up manifolds ect., are the reeds the same, is the compression ratio the same, do you have bungs for all sensors, will it need ecm recal. Just some things that come to mind but if all checks out why not.

EZ, I'm sure it can be done but seems like it wouldn't be worth the effort to get everything switched over set up right. Plus, the chance of burning the engine up. Then it would be a "bastard" engine to resell. Just my thoughts-

thanks guys. i was wondering why i was not getting no feedback. haha the joke was on me. i guess it is a lesson learn, to have all my forks on the table before i eat. thanks for the input. i was not sure about the oxgen censors etc. thats good input. i have the reeds and all out of the vmax. i will check compress ratio etc for giggles. just to see the diffrence. was talking around here and i get mixed feelings. some say its the same block and others say no. the pro v runs well, so i may leave well enough alone. thanks guys for yalls input and sorry for the mix up.

Even if you could pull it off without a hitch, there would be zero benefit. The carbed Yamaha is an almost flawless bulletproof motor that will get better fuel economy than the EFI. The Yamaha OX66 system although well designed is an absolute pig on fuel.

thanks guys for the input. yall have answered the questions i needed. this has got to be the most coolest site on the www. i think i will go with the, if it aint broke/dont fix it. thanks for the comments.

I would never want to convert from Carb to EFI, just seems like the wrong direction to me. Unless you're boating/fishing all day every day, I'm thinking it would be cheaper and less trouble to burn a little more gas. Ain't nothing better then keeping it simple, better known as useing the KISS method.

i will not do the swap. thanks for the post. i just installed the mota on the boat after it has been put up for a few months. it fired right up. if it aint broke dont fix it. it was just a thought. i have a bunch of yamaha parts that will be for sale shortly. i must finish this project first.
