TALON 21/MERC 2.5 CARB

JUPITER PULSARE

Well-known member
Ok guys, now that my "custom" Pulsare is finished it's time to sell the Talon. I've had the boat into the mid 80's and still climbing. The boat/motor are in great shape. The trailer needs paint but is fantastic mechanically. I've got about $13000 invested between what I paid to buy the boat, shipping to FL, tax and title and would like to get my investment back.
21' Talon
1993 Merc 2.5 carb race motor
Offshore mid section
Detwieler 7" Hyd. Jack plate
Sportmaster lower unit
trailer
If you're looking for a CAT, this is a bad ass boat!!

Hey jup, I was just wondering If you can Give your + or - of owning each style of boats. I would figure u would go with the talons speed instead of the luxery of the pulsare at a steady 75mph. If you could share your thoughts.
Thanks merc245

P.S. shouldn't have a proplem selling it.

Thoughts on the V bottom Pulsare vs the Talon Cat....There's something special about the Pulsare with it's long downward sloping nose and cockpit placed well aft. It makes you feel like you're driving a much bigger boat than 21'. I also enjoy having the "playpen" in the bow and have used it for more than storage!!! LOL Also, the freeboard on the Pulsare and width of the cockpit makes the boat feel bigger. The challenge of driving the Pulsare at speed and balancing the boat on the pad is pretty exciting...you have to drive the boat and focus. The Pulsare is pretty good at handling chop and swells although it will pound you now and then when landing on the pad. Having the windshield to duck behind at high speed is also great..you don't get much protection from the fairing on the cat.
The Talon Cat has the looks!!! Everywhere I go people stop to see the boat. The accelleration is phenominal!! No bow rise at all, the boat just runs like a scalded dog!!! You sit far forward in the Talon...it can feel intimidating at times looking straight at the water...If you allow the bow to drop between swells your gonna take a wet one in the face. You have to time yourself and throttle up on the downslope to keep the nose from burrying itself. The Talon take boat wakes like a champ....you don't even slow down...it just "flys" over the tops. Lots of storage in the gunnels but nowhere for people to hide or get out of the sun (like the cabin on the Pulsare). However, there is a large padded sundek on the rear of the Talon to lie on.....you have to climb over the windshield of the Pulsare and throw down some towels on the long deck to sunbathe (kind of slippery and can be very hot on a black boat).
As you can see there are plusses and minuses for each boat. If my water was fairly calm most of the time or had a 6-12" chop the Talon would be great. For running the intercoastal with lots of boat wakes or getting out in the ocean in 2-3' swells the Checkmate is great....it is a tough choice. I guess I'll have to leave it to fate.....whichever boat sells first will dictate the boat I keep!!!! I can't lose either way!! LOL

Tecnicly the talon is a tunnel hull not a cat .a cat is a long twin v hull boat
First of all, "tecnicly" is spelled "technically".
Second of all "Cat" is an abreviation for Catamaran which means twin hull. Has nothing to do with length.
Thirdly, all catamarans are tunnel hulls by virtue of their design. Some are air entrapment tunnel hulls that use the tunnel as a "wing" to fly the boat as it packs air, others are merely twin hulls built to steady a boat and give a good ride in rough seas.
If your phrase is correct (which it is not) than Skater, Eliminator, Motion, Specter, Cougar, Talon, Nortech, Obsession, American Offshore, Vortech, Cobra, Warlock, etc. etc. etc. have been building the wrong boats for years!!! LOL (They are all considered "cats" and don't have "twin v hulls")
Think before you type oh young wannabe one.

Hey JUP, I ment to tell u long ago on this thread that u are right about looking out over the front of your pulsare. When I first looked over the bow of my starflite(after the 16' sportfire) I thought I was operating a 30' offshore boat. Even others said so! One of the biggest thrills in life is running as hard as possiable and keeping that long deck as flat & Even as possable.I look at as if I had an egg on the forward deck I did not want to fall off.

GOD BLESS THE CLOSED DECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT LOOKING TALON JUP....

Someone's going to get a nice ride... S&F it!!! A friend of mine has a 21 Talon with a 2.4 Bridgeport... corners like a formula boat and flys like an STV! Neat boat for performance, but...
Your 'Mate's more practical for sure!:cheers

 if it was only a Talon 22'er.... :brickwall: drool...:irked: ;) JIM

Hey Jim, nice to see you back! Yes, the Talon was a great and exciting ride but the comfort level, roominess, and inability (lack of freeboard) to handle the kind of water I sometimes run in influenced the sale. It was a great second boat while my Pulsare was under the knife. Next time I consider a small cat it will be something with higher freeboard and a wider cockpit like a Skater 21........although I did find another 21' Talon with a 200 merc just a 2 hour drive away for $8000.!!!! tempting...I could play for a while and flip it for a profit!

Yup, I sometimes think how nice it would be to have an open bow Pulsare, specially when towing wakeboards (send some weight to the bow) or taking more than four people on board, but there's something about that long deck sticking out there that's so cool! I've also used the "cabin" now and then. It's been good for naps, storage, and if you take a wave over the bow (which can happen alot in the ocean or with the boat wakes in Florida) you have a pretty good chance of staying dry. (unless it makes it over the windshild!!) My kids enjoy riding under the deck and getting bounced around now and then.

Yes, the boat went to a real nice guy in Texas. He's already done some nice work on the boat..new gages, stereo, painting the trailer, etc. Boat found a good home and the guy is into drag racing her. If I ever get a chance to get another 2.5 carb race motor I would grab it..one hell of a good motor!!
