The Ginger's New Ride

Specs say dry weight is 8500 lbs. From what I have heard from other owners is that should be closer to 10,000 as on a steel trailer they are close to 14,000 lbs. So for the mild power and the mass of them, they are a great performing hull. Just jumping up to the 500efi blue motors made most of them run right around 80 mph so a little horsepower bump has large effects.

Ron,
I'm always dreaming about boats and going bigger and such but I'm sometimes hesitant because of fuel costs and such. I know if fuel goes back to $4 per gallon that will halt some of my long distance trips I like to make. Any guess what mpg you should get cruising 50 - 60 mph?

Not that terrible I imagine. Check 300 (Bill) says the 43' with twin 700's does better than 1 mpg at cruise. I'm expecting similar. It is probably not much worse than the thirst twin OB boats with older eggbeaters. Those things love fuel!

Yep, I'm between 1.5 and 1.75 with my old egg beaters. That would be great if you can stay north of 1 mpg.

That PC guy, he's pretty funny. :D :poke:

She is home! The little 1500 that could did better than I expected pulling her. Good thing the surge brakes did work decently. I wouldn't pull the thing across country but it does just fine around town. I won't be a poker run road warrior without a bigger truck. Trailer does have two bearings running quite hot even after fresh grease so those will get replaced this week. I am in desperate need of canvas as the only cover it has is the full camper enclosure that he has been using as the primary cover for a while now based on the weathering if it. I will be calling Carver Industries for a new mooring cover to get me by until I can have a proper cockpit cover made. Now the fun begins!

On the hot bearings, check to make sure the brake calipers are not dragging a bit. I bought a new Manning and by the 2nd year the calipers were going bad. If you need anything for the trailer call Matt at Manning and he will get you anything you need and not gouge you on price. They are good guys there. Nice purchase BTW.

I am finally almost done compounding and waxing this beast! I completed the deck with 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound last night and will glaze and wax it tonight. This thing was dirty but is shining up nicely. Hopefully the camera captured the stark difference on the deck. This thing will really shine tonight when I hit it with glaze compound. I will probably do everything above the rubrail again next year just to get it even better. The sides came back very nicely and won't need any additional work except to clean and wax.

Note: the pics showing the direct comparison showing the grime was even that dirty after scrubbing with soap and wash brush prior to compounding. She was a dirty girl indeed.

The sides after 3M Rubbing Compound, 3M Finesse-It Glaze, and Starbrite Teflon Marine Wax:

I have been finding a bunch of poorly touched up areas on the painted graphics and will probably have them painted over sooner than later as cleaning them up only exaggerated the bad areas that were only slightly noticeable before. At least the boat came with a gallon of each color DuPont Chromabase. Also thinking about taking the pinkish "heather" color on the sides to more of a definitive purple color to match the interior carpeting and billet trim. I would probably cover the teal color with metallic silver as well. The interior is mostly white with very small bands f accent coloring. I could easily take vinyl dye and make those areas black to match.

The canvas on this boat is also less than stellar. I received my full mooring cover from Carver Industries as a semi-custom fit in the Sun-Dura fabric. It is very nice fabric and very nice quality cover for the price. However, I would still like to have a regular cockpit cover which I think I am going to bite the bullet and have one made. I wish I had the old one to use as a pattern but oh well. The Camper enclosure that the PO had been using is faded but they fabric is in good condition however the clear eisenglass sections are shot and have duct tape over cracks. I think I will just have the eisenglass sections replaced and use the black vinyl dye to refresh the faded Aqualon purple fabric. I'm not really out much trying to salvage it.

Here is a pic of the business end just for the halibut. Notice the notch transom, and padded keel. I am finding this is an early 2000 hull which still has some hook in the rear section which was removed later in 2000 models. That improved bow lift and propeller slip in slight chop conditions. As the hull is right now, the boat will run fastest in calm water and in 2' chop prop slip goes up and top speed drops which is what I experienced on my sea trial. I may address this at a later date and have more of the rear lifting strakes removed which is what the factory did in the blueprinting process. to decrease stern lift. Also, the x-dimension is about 3" below the hull on these drives. Looks like more than that in these pics but drives are fully down below level right now.

I also received a box of new/used IMCO exhaust tips to replace the muffled Corsa tips. I hopefully will get to putting those on this weekend when I address mechanical tune-ups and fluid changes.

Old Corsa's:

Nice job Ron. Fantastic work on the fluff and buff. She looks great. BTW that's a nice shot of her set of (4) bladed spinny things.:thumb: Jim

Congrats Ron on your new boat!

I love bigger but the EU prices of gas is going strong up again. Thats why i choose a 7,4mpi. And the long runs with buddys are going to be longer and longer in miles.

Bill said 1 mile a gallon? Ten euro for two km; so if i go out it would cost me around 1200 dollars on a average run overhere. Just heard i have to look very nice to my better half in the future if i want ever to go bigger lol

Do the pq all have the high windscreen?

Most do. Some came with the sport fairing. I LOVE the full windshield. Im very happy to have it. Tired of the wind in my face on long runs. Took this beast out today and had a blast. Just so darn comfy but got her up dancing on some slop yet. Didn't push it hard but had some fun. Loving it more and more every day.

Got a couple good pics at the breakfast stop on Saturday. Also getting props dialed in. Did some trading for a set of labbed 30p Bravos. Boat hated cleaver style blades. Tried 32p bravos and were a bit too much and I can bounce the 28p bravos off the limiters. Boat is at home for next two weeks due to an upcoming non-boating scheduled weekend. Hopefully can get some more cleaning done and get the exhaust tips changed out finally. Also had a friend look into the stock "lack of tuning" with mefiburn and a laptop. I did gain a solid 2-3 mph with current props off of it.
