Upgraded the wife's boat this spring. Sold off her nice low hour 2000 SeaDoo GSX-RFI and just picked up a lower hour 2004 Honda Aquatrax R-12. It's kinda like the SeaDoo, being fuel injected and a 2-seater but the newer Honda has reverse which helps with pulling up onto the boat lift. The SeaDoo didn't have reverse, and was a scary ride up near the boat lift!!

Anyway, now I've got a dilemma. The wife's current boat tops out in the upper 50's to almost 60 mph (haven't GPS'd it yet). My Checkmate will only do 55! OH OH. WE CAN'T HAVE THAT CAN WE? Sure the Pulse is only used on rare weekends when she wants to go tubing, but it's top speed is now second fiddle! So help me out, what to do??

I think you should sell yours before even more people find out that my Pulse is faster. :)

JW,

I was thinking a bit different, sell the whole damn package, boat and motor, and then have a bigger, newer, and faster boat!!!LOL

With the options available above, I went for the bigger motor.

Good luck.

Good idea too HotDaddy! I dont think I can modify the poll though.........

Edit: Yep, I changed the poll a little. Didn't know I could do that!

OK EVERYONE ELSE, VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!!

Since you've got the Honda Aquatrax and it's a two seater, pull the tube with that. Then take off the trolling mota and add a 200 HP Merc on the Pulse 170. How easy was that....:D

I'm with hotdaddy. Sell em both-get something bigger. Or...throw the wife in on the deal and get something MUCH bigger. No- you won't get much for the wife but you'll have a lot more cash around to pay for the new boat.

i'm wantin somethin new too ! jw you knew that anyway i got the green light on it but i couldnt do it w/ back surgery last year. now the economy sucks even more, back to your pickle you hunted for that pulse for a while. sensible move is repower , but i think your missin your pulsare more !!!

How much money do you want to spend? That will tell you how fast you can go! Gotta love boating. I say just find yourself a nice 250 or 300 to slap on the back and tell her to "eat my wake"

My opinion - From what I remember, your lake isn't real big - so unless you need a bigger boat for bigger water or to take more people out, i'd stick with that super clean pulse and just upgrade the motor. A nice optimax 225 would be borderline irresponsible and it would be fun to see the #'s you'd post!

Damn it, I can't vote again!:yell:

With the number of boats I see for sale these days, I am sure that you could find a great package. The problem would likely be selling your boat/motor.

As for needing a bigger boat for bigger water, I bet you on a sunny Sunday afternoon that little body of water can get rock'n and roll'n pretty good.

It would def. be easier to simply upgrade the motor.

I was going to rename mine "Fuelish Pleasure" but I couldn't bring myself to change it from "Gimme Fuel"......it just seemed to fit. I had a big list of names i thought up and I didn't use even one....

BORDERLINE IRRESPONSIBLE I think would be a good name for illMATTic's Starflite if he put twin black max's on it! I still think someone needs to put twins on a 2400 Pulsare. SIMPLY WICKED maybe?:sssh:

I think i have the best of both worlds... I have a 1996 Sea-Doo XP with a high HP motor, and a bigger checkmate in a 234 Persuader. You 17' isn't much bigger than the ski, in a sense, and it appears not to be any more fun. I'd sell both the ski and pulse, buy a stand-up or some ignorantly powered XP like mine, and then buy a big block Persuader or similar and enjoy the best of both!

Can't do the I/O checkmate at my lake front. I'm very shallow 125' out from shore, no way I can get an I/O 'Mate onto a boat lift. I had that Persuader listed below that I had to sell when we first bought this place. Outboards only as long as I'm living here

Hmmmm... bummer. Dredge it then!! LOL. I have a very long stretch of shallow myself until hitting a channel. I bought a 60# trolling motor and will temp rig it to my swim platform until i reach deepr water, then pull it onboard and stow it. Well, otherwise you'll be looking for an outboard and i'mnot too familiar with how big of a mate you can go with and still have OB power. Maybe have a peeksie at the starflite/starliner series. I love my flite when i had it and the liner had a good deal more usable room too!
