What is the average 496 HO fuel economy?

I am about to invest in a 260 Checkmate Convincor with the 496 HO and I would like to know from some current owners what kind of fuel economy it will get? We usually take the kids to the beach about an 8 mile ride and then I will go open the throttle a little with an empty boat for maybe 20 or 30 minutes, then the 8 mile trip back at cruising speed. Generally I will only go all out every now and then when I get the chance. With a 100 Gallon tank how long will it last is there a good rule of thumb?

my rule of thumb is its a c note every time you turn the key:cheers: but seriously im guessing here maybe a gallon per mile at cruise and two at wot im sure somebody will correct me here

Big Blocks and economy are not supposed to go in the same sentence! I usually figure on that c-note myself. Every boat and setup are different. The biggest difference is how "throttle happy" the driver is and how hard you pound it out of the hole.

With current oil prices, it might be a bill and a half nowdays.....
thats why you see all of the dock rats in the marina who drop their boats in the springtime and never move them until its time to take them out in the fall

Dock rats thats funny. Yea I can see how people would do that though. These boats are going for dirt cheap now that gas is about to go over $4.00 A gallon. It is a shame to because those tripple engine 1500 Horse power Apache' sure would be fun to drive! Hey just think every time you take out the Apache you could buy a small boat with the money it costs just to fuel it up!
