What's the latest Checkmate news?

So what's the latest news at the Checkmate Factory? I'm surprised that the new owner has not chimed in to stir some interest and fill us in as to what is taking place...new products, boats, quality, etc..???? Inquiring minds want to know!!

Somewhere on here is a thread with some of the new graphics. There is also a new website in the works, I was out there last week and got a preview of it from the new manager Dean R. He also signed up on the board but hasn't posted yet. The first of the new boats should be out of the molds later this week and I will get some pictures for everyone. I should also get some shots of the new interior after that. Wood will be phased out of the cockpit area at least. It will still be found in the stringers and transom. I got the job as the Checkmate Delivery guy. There may be something I missed, but I can't think of what. I'm headed out there tomorrow if you have a specific question.

Word has it that C-mate is working on a 2400BR with a 300XS for a hot boat bow rider shoot out being put on by Hot Boat Mag. The 2400 with the notched transom and a 300 should make a good showing for C-mate going up against the West coats boats! Can't wait to see the results. boatman

Hey Claupie, just finished the boat this past weekend! All new Livorsi Gages with Bezels, Eddie Marine anodized Jack Plate switch panel installed on horizontal plane next to throttle(for finger tip control while throttling), new Pioneer CD player, new "offshore bullit proof" wiring behind dash panel on all gages, new water proof rubber booted switches installed on original Checkmate switch panel, bright red overheat warning light installed in original jack plate toggle switch location, water scoops installed on lower unit, and a Merc chopper 28 lab finished by DAH ready to go!! If I get to the water this Weekend I'll shoot some pics....behind the dash is impressive! My rigger "Tim Parsons" is an offshore rigging artist!!! If I don't make it to the water this weekend the Pics will have to wait cause I'm going Skiing in Beaver Creek CO till April 10th!!! Prey for Snow!!!! Steve

quite impressive steve...cant wait to see the pics...i'll pray for snow for ya..i wish i was going to florida but for water skiing...by the way do you still want $7500.for boat only .lol..

i want to see the wiring job - please get some pics of that.

You got it Chris!! I'll post pics as soon as I can. It's pretty cool...instead of the usual spaghetti nest behind the dash, every wire coming off the gages travels down vertically off of heat shrunk terminals, makes a 90 degree turn and joins the main horizontally running group of wires that are tie wrapped every couple of inches and attached to the underside of the dash. It's visibly easy to track each wire behind the dash.

quit teasing and show me the pics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love neat wiring/rigging jobs. i could never make a living at it because i take to long. it drives my wife nuts - i even have all the stereo wires in protecta loom and tie straped together. i think a little OCD is good for everyone.

I kind of thought that the new owners or manager's would come on and say a few thing's as well but cant wait to see the new website! thanks

I was at the factory on Tuesday and got the chance to talk to Doug for a couple of minutes in between swapping stories with Coop. He seems like a nice guy. Time will tell! boatman

Excuse my ignorance, but are you guys referring to Checkmate being bought out by Baja? I've heard this from a somewhat reputable source. Is this true? If this is true...it makes me a little sad. Not that Baja is a really bad boat...I just don't see them as a really good boat. They're fast and stable but they just don't have any SOUL! Do ya know what I mean?

Checkmate got bought by one of the original owners of Baja ... not by Baja itself. He hasn't been with Baja for a while.

It's April 5 today.

When was the last time a boat came out of the mold there?
I'm sure several have come out the molds in the past few weeks. "Checkmate Marine" (the new name) has given the employees 4 straight 40hr weeks in a row. Something some of them haven't seen in five years. The new owners have only been at it for about a month now, things are looking good out there. I should have my first load to haul sometime after the holiday.
