Wickedrister's winter project

FIRST TEST RUN OF 2006 IS IN THE BOOKS

We tested it for the first time on Wednsday the 19th. I ran 61 mph by the speedo but I think it has another 3 to 4 left that we can tweek out of it.

SECOND TEST RUN

For the second test run we are installing the water inlet scoop kit and up 1" on the motor. We will let you know how that went:banana:

second test run for 2006

I think the scoop kit did a good helping my low water pressure. I went up 1" on the jack plate and at the same time went up 8 lbs on the water pressure with the scoops. Pressure went from 10 lbs up to 18 lbs at WOT.To my suprise the top speed did not change after lifting the motor 1" I did find that it can be driven at 60 mph with less cime walk than before but it still want's to chime walk way bad if you try lifting the bow much higher than level. It has a really really bad hole shot. The boat takes forever to come up on plane and it feels strange, almost like the motor has now power. After it get's up on plane then it takes off like a shot. I think I am off target on the 13.75 X 23 Laser II prop. It only turns 5100 with WOT at 61 MPH. I figure dropping from the 23 pitch Laser to a 22 may help the hole shot and get the RPM's up about 300 to about 5400 to 5500. I am also giong to try the TH Marine hole shot plate. It looks like will help in more than one way. The jack plate seems to works like a big dredge when you take off and stop trapping water inside of it. I may go up another 1/2" on the jack plate the next time out and see how that does. The center of the prop shaft is 3 and 1/4" below the pad now. I have no sliping or blowout problens even in a 50 to 55 mph turn and have almost no rooster tail behind the boat. Over all I'm happy with the new set up but still want to try a few things. I am ready and willing for your suggestions:thumb:

3rd Test Run

When I tested today I changed props and ran with the holeshot plate. I tested a 14.25 X 21 hustler. Hole shot was way faster but it wanted to slip the prop some. RPM's picked up by 400 but the top speed fell off 1 or 2 mph. Think I need to find a 14 or 14.25 X 22 3 of 4 blade to try.

2 props on loan to try with the option to buy

I have a 14 x 21 Trophy Plus 4 blade and a 22 pitch 3 blade Tempest to try. I will be testing next on Wednsday the 17th. Will let yall know how they did:banana:

I picked a bad day for boating with the wife

We took the boat out on Memorial day. The lake was a mess with boat traffic all day long. I picked the wrong day to stand on it and show the wife what it will do. She was not impressed at all. She punched me in the arm, called me a name or three and said take me back to the camp where it is safe and said don't ever ask me to get in this stupid boat:pissed: I did good Yes:banana: LOL LOL. She did finally agree to go back out when the water was smooth for a second try. I'll be good the next time I take her out:surf:

Now thats funny, had a the very same conversation with the wife the 1st time I stood one it. Same puch in the arm. Good stuff.

Puch in the are is in direct relation to throttle position at the given moment and sea state. Boat is looking great.

Wicked you have a nice ride there. I don't give my opinion very often because.....Well you know the rest of the saying, but I think you have that motor burried way too deep. I would start by putting that prop shaft at 1.5 to two inches below the pad and go up from there. Your chine walking problem should improve and your speed should pick up. Once you find the sweet spot on the jack plate then you can try different props. Perhapse a small ear chopper in the 24 - 26 pitch range will let that motor air out. The over the hub and surfacing design of the prop is your best bet for top speed. I am running a 26p small ear chopper on my sportfire with the prop shaft one inch below the pad with an XR2 and it ran 74 on gps this morning. My boat hates the motor deep in the water. Any way good luck

Oops didn't realize you were running a 135...Change that pitch reccomendation for an over the hub to a 22 - 24 pitch.

Thanks T-town but I think it will require a low water pick up kit if I want to go any higher. I'm running only the scoop kit now and I'm at the max hight for keeping good water pressure. If I go up 1/4" the pressure falls from 19 to 10 pounds at W.O.T.

Boat ready by the 4th?Who knows. Going to glass in the bow box's today. Going to try and shoot primer this weekend.
hope to see you on the water soon Guss, my boat is going to be tested next weekend ( big sigh ) in the morning I'm going to finish the wireing I ordered the 2 stainless lines for the jack plate today, I mounted the pump in the boat so it won't be under water anymore I made a box for the 2 pumps the fuel filter and the electric fuel pump I will post some pics this next week. I test fired the motor for 3 sec to make sure the electonics are hooked up right ( wow ) it sounded like a Indy car lol. I added someting I hope all will like and copy writed the idea hope to sell as a kit I added a rev-limiter to the motor so if I go airborn it won't free rev and pop the motor . I will share pics of that also next week. I'd love to be able to have a fun gentlemans race with you 2 lol no crazy stuff lol Greg
