Made it out today-got a warning beep

It hit 60 today and I had a few hours so I took it down to the river to break it out for the season. Started right up. When I gave it some gas after warming up in idle I got a single warning beep and a sputter. It did it several times. I'm thinking maybe fuel delivery. It had a bunch of new high test that I had picked up on the way to the ramp but I'm wondering if there is gunk or fuel injector clogging. Didn't want to open it up to blow it out.Pictures in my mind of a blown something or other so I just went back to the ramp.
On a humorous note- The mouse that I've been unable to get rid of all winter (I've seen the shredded paper) came swimming at me as I was winching it up.
Needless to say I left the stowaway at the ramp instead of bringing it home.
Anybody got any ideas about a single warning beep when you give it gas in a 1997 merc 225 EFI?
Also-am I the first guy out for the season in the Northeast? Do I get a hat or something?
The water was freaking cold!!! Snow runoff. We've still got some on the ground. I wish I could post some pictures but I always get a message that my file is too big from my canon powershot.

Usually a solid beep is a overheat warning, that will also cause it to slow down and act like it has no fuel. my johnson would do it if the water is extremely cold, I guess the thermostat doesn't work the way it should maybe, I'm not sure , dealer told me not to worry about it as long as I have good water pressure.

I am not sure about an EFI motor, but on the Optimax 1 beep can mean water/moisture detected in the fuel. This wouldn't surprise me after all of the ups and downs in temps. this year in the Northeast. Specifically, if your boat is stored outside.

**Brag** I should be fine because my garage never gets below 62*F. LOL:p:p

1 quick beep and a sputter -several times. I'm thinkin and hopin that what HD says makes sense. Then it would just be a matter of burning some fuel out with a little dryer additive and living with it for a couple hours tops. I'm gonna go online and look for some information on merc signals.
By the way HD, for what it's worth- I am genuinely and sincerely jealous. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. I am so sick of dealing with covers and snow.
I could get the boat into the garage but it would mean kicking out 2 cars. The chances of my wife allowing me to put her car out are about as likely as me putting my ragtop or the bike out. Car #3-the jeep lives out there anyhow.
I need more space.
I shouldn't complain. Luxury problems.

Scratch the dry gas idea. I think I can live without blowing the powerhead.
And it does look like the one quick beep means moisture/water.

Good idea!

Go to your local Merc dealer. They have all types of approved additives including quikleen and fuel treatment/stabilizer which I believe helps with moisture.

I would add a fuel filter/water seperator as SOP.I've installed one a dozen yrs ago. Haven't had any water or debris proplems fuel wise since!

I ordered a separator last night that I'm gonna install this week before I go out next Friday. That and I'll throw in an additive. I'll keep y'all informed.
At least the mouse is gone.

Dumb ?, I wan't to also get a seperater, would that mount under the deck or in the splashwell, and would it be between the tank and bulb or between the bulb and motor, or does it matter?

I don't know if it is right, but I always put it before the filter so that I could "prime" the filter so as to not starve the motor on start up.

In the exciter, I mounted mine in-between the tank and the primer bulb- attached it to the flotation box. It will draw the fuel right thru it, no problem. I left the small omc fuel filter inline under the cowl.

Thanks Kyle. I am absolutely certain I never would have figured that out on my own. So will the seperator I'm putting in between the tank and primer bulb fix that?
By the way, I found a guy in South Jersey that makes fiberglass showers who fixed the step perfectly and I then had my auto body shop respray it with the flake that Mike at Checkmate sent me a few Z's of. Looks good as new. In fact it looks better than the original on the other side. Ended up costing me about 200 bucks including the shipping as opposed to the nearly 1500 that a boat restoration place wanted to charge me.

Yep, those platforms need to be sanded and cleared years ago. I always thought that the problem was that they spend so much time under water when parked/docked.

You should do the other one, or just back into the same tree but on the other side so you have a reason to do it.:poke:

I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the finished product to show my dad. He spent countless hours with compound bringing those back to shine every spring.

HD- I would love to post pictures but I always get a message that my picture size is too large. Otherwise you guys would have tons of pictures from me.
Canon sureshot-I don't know why.
As for backing the other step into the tree- I think I'm a gonna grab the chain saw and get rid of that tree on the next nice day that isn't quite warm enough to take out the boat.

Stabil removes moisture from your fuel, The water separater should be before the primer bulb. The Water/fuel separater is only $30.00 for a mallory or Sierra Kit.
