SHOW ME THE HORSEPOWER!!!!

Ross, so now that you've had both an I/O Checkie and the outboard Flite, which would be your preference if you had to choose only one?

Would you prefer an outboard or an I/O?

Personally, I've never had an I/O and always had outboards. :)

to be totally honest.....i fell in love with the sound of a bbc... i mean a 4 cylinder:bigthumb: the reason i sold the flite was no less than the location of where we live now. when i bought the flite we did live here in the same place but i was just looking to get on the water. once i had to trailer the boat an hour from the beautiful lake michigan to use it, i decided i needed that bbc sound and the hull to go with it! ( we can see the big water from the end of the drive ) i loved the flite, just wasnt big enough for the water here close to home.....wish i could have both but didnt make sense at the time;) in the future i may look for a smaller o/b ( maybe a predictor) and throw a big mota on it but we will see. there are a few more reasons but that will be disclosed at a later date:bigthumb:

Our lake isn't too big, but we do have a few nice I/O's on the lake. Some of the boats are actually tourists I think, that show up on long weekends once in a while. But I digress...

Anyways, there are some I/O's that sound really, really nice, those ones tempt me to want one. There is also one guy on the lake that has an old Gold Flake Super-Sidewinder Jet with a big block in it and it sounds incredible.

I hope to get some shots of it one day if I can. :thumb:

Every once in a while when I'm dreaming, I often wonder if I bought a new boat and money was no object, would it be a 2100 with a 300 XS, or instead, would a I get a big block I/O which is somewhat warmed up. Hence why I was asking you after owning both how you felt. :)

If you don't mind me chiming in, I also grew up on outboards. Comparing apples to apples, I have had enchanters in both forms. I love the interior room, light weight, ease of wrench turning, and performance of the outboard. Love the sound, ease of modding motors, unlimited rear view, overall look, and ride in rough water the I/O gives. Each has their strong points and weak points. With that being said, I do not see me ever not owning a I/O boat. I have even thought about doing a 4 cyl I/O conversion on a playmate. I still love my O/B's tho

If money was no object, buy one of each :D I personally would love a 2400LD with a BBC:sssh:, but I am thinking a bit bigger than that;)

Thanks for your input. :)

See here is what I like about my outboards and this is what has driven my decision making for years.

Firstly, we're cottagers first and we cottage in an area where the weather is unpredictable - not too different than many of the northern folks here. So for me, with an outboard, I can run early or late in the year, without fear of causing damage from cold weather.

Typically what we do is put the boat in the water on a Friday night and then take it back out on Sunday night. And we don't have a launch at the cottage, so I typically store the boat in the barn at the local marina. So for me, what I think about with an I/O, is a scenario where I put the boat in the water in May and then we get a freeze and boom, cracked block. That can also happen in June or September on the odd day too. It's rare, but it can happen. And that in my mind, limits the season for me to enjoy an I/O.

Secondly, we like to ski quite a bit. And most I/O's throw too big a wake.

Now in a perfect world, we'd have lifts and a couple of boats, perhaps one of each. But the truth is that we don't have the funds to keep both and we really don't have the free time either.

hey chris how close to the border in ontario do you live id be glad to take you for a ride in an i/o for research if you are reasonably close i also have a very good friend with a v drive which may be your middle ground so to speak you still get the sound and the acceleration and the ski ability just not the all out top speed

lets bring this one back to the top for the guys that have bought different boats that not all of us have seen motor pics of:D or some of the upgrades you guys have done:thumb:
