convincor 251

Hey everyone first post here, looks like a great community.

Last weekend I picked up a 92' 251 convincor and am looking for the right prop. What I have is a 540 making HP with bravo 1 drive. When I got it previous owner had a ballistic 26p 3 blade on it and it blew out all the time. This week I picked up a labbed 30p bravo 1 4 blade. I try ed the 30p last night and top speed was 67 gps mph with 3 guys and 1/2 tank. Problem is I could only turn 4400rpm's I would like to be at 5200. What prop do you think would be a good all around prop good top end and cruise? Also this boat seems to like to be trimmed in just about all the way. Is that normal?

Thanks in advance.

I think you will like the B1 four blade, but you maight want to try a 26 or 28.

Not sure about the 251 but my 253 likes to be trimmed in until about 3800-4200 rpm depending on load and conditions. Then you can trim it out and let it eat.

Mine also likes trim down. Anything more then a bump or two up and she will start bounceing. Once I'm about 40-45mph I can trim it up about quarter way and its smooth.

I'm with the b1 4 blade also. Agree 26-28 to get your rpms up.

26p bravo 1, you should be able to trim it to whatever you want once you get it to around 40mph.....it will chine a bit but you will get used to it. i run my zz502 with a 24 bravo 1 to 5900-6k;)

With my set up what speeds should I see with a b1 26-28? Also is it the drive height or hull or ??? that makes it want to be trimmed in?

650hp? If it really is, then that prop should be in the neighborhood.

Only thing I can think of is these boats need air underneath them to really run and you're keeping it trimmed in.. trim it out further. Probably the sweet spot for trim will also be throwing a small rooster tail with a B1. I'd get up to speed and start trimming untill you have a rise in rpms and no increase in speed.

If this is your first fast boat and it really is making 650hp, its going to take alot of seat time to get confortable with running it to its full potential.

With the 30p I had it trimmed till I had a pretty good rooster and tabs were up. It felt pretty good but I am not sure the rpm have is exactly on or the 650 HP is good just taking the previous owners word but everything is done to the t and I have heard from a few people that the guy is a straight shooter. We did have 3 people and 1/2 tank but I am leaning to a 28 b1.

Also have a nice 30 b1 for sale if anyone is interested.

Ok, from running a 251 for years with several different engine/prop combo's....don't think you are anywhere near 650hp..that being said go with a 26 bravo 1, a labbed one from BBlades will run faster than a stock one but blades are thin..also do you have hyd steering ? if not add or stop now...trust me you do not want to be in one of these 75+ without it....can tell you from experiance...Rob

A labbed 30P will turn about the same rpms as a stock 28p. Never buy somebody elses labbed prop. Props are labbed to other peoples boats and engine mods.

Has anyone ever tried a cleaver? Not really sure what the good and bad are on those, could be fun to try.

I had a 3 blade cleaver on my 219, it made a huge roooster tail, but it didn't plane worth a crap and made the checkmate "bounce" worse at mid range speeds... I'm sure its different with bigger boats but I would have to assume that it would make the bounce even worse on a bigger boat.
