1975 Vmate restoration

I didnt get alot done today before I left for work but did add another piece of glass to the transom . My dad had got there as I was leaving and he was doing some sanding . And looked like he was getting the garboard ready to install . Tomorrow we are shooting to pour some seacast . Im crossing my fingers there . I know ill have to buy more but that will give me a idea of how much more ill need. I have the day off tomorrow so really trying to get something done .....

Managed to get out of work early tonight even though it was a easy 5am stop time . Ill be able to actually get some rest tonight and have some energy for tomorrow (well later this morning) to work on the boat .

I see he had this sitting in there now . I guess ill have to run out and pick up some 5200 to seal it up ...

I'm dying to see how that Seacast goes. Please take lots of Pictures!

Well that didnt happen tonight . My dad decided he wanted to start the stringer instead and it was cool here today only about 60 and it says pour the seacast when its about 75 degs . So looks like sunday might be the day . So as of right now we are out in the garage getting the stringer cut . I bought a 2x4x10 for the stringer and a sheet of 4x8 3/8"s in plywood for the floor and a few tubes of PL Premium ......

Managed to get a few more good hours in on the boat today . Got the stringer and the floor laid in place . Still need to add a piece in the the front and the stinger has to be glued down and what not . But wasnt a bad morning over all . Now I have to leave for work in a few mins and wont have another full day of working on it till Sunday ....

Had another busy day today . Got the battery box made and both seat boxes and the extra piece of floor that had to extend forward a bit .... They turned out really good too ....... Screwed it all together and glued it with PL Premium . The old stuff was only stapled together than glassed down to the hull ... Now I just have to get the boat all cleaned out tomorrow and get it ready to start glassing everything in place ... Need to find something other than the grinder to remove the old carpet glue from the hull ...

Brian we are trying our best to get the it all back together before it get cold here . Im hopping to have all the old paint stripped off too . That way in the spring it can be pulled back out and start sanding it and have it ready for my dad to paint it . We still have to get the seacast in too . I thought that was the plan today but we ended up doing this instead . Which was perfectly fine by me . Long as something is being done to this thing im happy ..... The more progress we get the more I want to drive it lol

Try a heat gun and scraper on the glue. Your grinder is probaly just making a hot mess and cutting the glass. Coming right along, looks good.

get a backing pad for sanding discs (paper) for your angle grinder, BEST tool ever. it's fast and works well, we used 36 grit and man it'll put a hole in your boat so fast if your not careful, but holyyyyy crap it makes life so easy for demolition!

I have the backing pad . The disc's I had I dont remember what grit they even were They are not marked (there old) but were never used . Worked great on the glass and what not but soon as it hits the glue there done ....

is the glue still soft? ours was rock hard and sanded just like glass

Yeah the carpet must not have been changed that long ago . I know when I pulled the carpet back on my Trimate it was rock hard and scraped off real easy was like dust

I used a cupped knot wire wheel on my 4 1/2" grinder. It worked great!
