" For Sale" Craigslist NYC: 28' Checkmate Speedboat Twin 225 Outboards - $6700 (Queens)

Yeah, saw that last week. Looks like a great deal and an interesting ride if it's all in good shape.

Yeah, I love my Liner but if that thing was floating around when I was shopping I might have had to jump on it.

Looks like a late 80's boat. Must need TLC. Doesn't it seem a little on the cheap side?? Wonder what's up..Doesn't mean I wouldn't want it..

It does seem questionably reasonable pricing ( didn't want to use the word "cheap". And never forget-2 engines is twice as much to go wrong.

Not to mention twice as much to feed. I didn't realize going into my boat how much worse on fuel a 200hp outboard is than a 200hp I/O.

With some love and updating, that could be a great looking boat......has potential. I do like the look of a couple eggbeaters hanging off the back of convincors. That thing is all bow....makes her look long and mean.

I believe I have seen that one for sale since last year. makes me wonder if it need a lot of work.

I've gotta disagree with you EZ. A properly maintained and UNMOLESTED outboard is pretty damn reliable. Especially a fishing motah OMC.

Two strokes are by nature less fuel efficient than a comparable HP 4 stroke and they can be a bit temperamental but the newer ones with direct injection are much more efficient and less temperamental than they used to be.

Agreed, I had a 95' 200 Venom OMC like yours with over 900 hrs on it, owned it for about 6 years and had one spark plug fail, thats it!

Also IMO that thing won't burn as much fuel as 2 outboards mounted seperatly would, maybe 30-40 % more than one single engine would because they aren't working as hard.

Also agreed. However, I find myself using about the same amount of fuel at 30 mph as I do at 50. Usually around 3mpg or 20 gph.

Your boats to big for the motor :poke: :rof:

I've never figured out what mpg my 87' 220 merc EFI gets but it's awful, probably the same as yours, I originally had a 140 Johnson on my old boat and when I went to the 95 200 venom my fuel mileage more than doubled, you would think a smaller 4 banger would burn less but not the case, with the 200 on that little 16 footer it didn't have to work hard, I could get around 50 mph at 3500 rpm and 81 at 6000, I've done a lot of motor swapping on all my boats and always find that the biggest motor on the smallest boat possible just sips fuel and it's a scary ride too, LOL.

I can't wait to put a newer bigger motor on my Eluder, I can't afford to feed that old merc, but I can't afford a new motor either, I'm sure if you hung a 300 on the liner you would see a huge savings in fuel.

Agreed. I think its both the weight and the lack of a pad that hurts it. I'll have to tell the wife she needs to get back to work so we can order a new 300XS so we can save on fuel this summer. :D

I never calculated it exactly but I did a roughly 60 mile trip up the hudson last year and filled up before heading back and it took a little over 20 gallons. Of course it wasn't a straight ride up since we looped around a couple of times.

Ron, you should trade yours in on it. That way there would be no reason to take so long getting it running again. Heck, they blow on the water..... 4 bolts and splash. Easier to row back in as well as lighter on the trailer back home couch.gif;)
