1989 Checkmate Cobra Sprint

It'll fit in my garage :rof:

HA! I'm sure it would. I love the boat, but everythings for sale for the right price. Getting rid of the boat will also save me the sleepless nights lusting after a white race version to park next to the black one!

The white race boat version is on the site here, with a slightly different paint job, and the regular hatch. Its also come up for sale a time or two.

THAT's the one!!! There you go.

Is that the race version with the header coming out of the hatch?? I dont see the header at all...or am I missing something? That also seems like a really cheap price for a rare boat if its as good as it looks in the photos

Production hatch with standard exhaust. It was the race version at one time.
The price is cheap, because we don't tell everyone they have a supper rare Checkmate.

If you want a hatch with a hole for a header, for the right price, I could build you something. Bear in mind, I'm 4 boats, and 6 rc jobs behind right now.

Price may also be low because the boat has a limited use with only holding two full size adults. Like the Playmate GT, lots of people want them but practicality gets in the way.

Coop, i thought the only difference in the hatches was that the raceboat hatch had a cut out for the header coming out the top and maybe a small vent in the front. The pleasure version had a bench seat but the raceboats had a bucket seat. Maybe Kip will chime in with details.

Just thought I'd post a quick update. Had the boat out a few times, and other than a small common issue with the shifting which I have since fixed the boat runs like a top. It maxed out at 50mph exactly with the factory 21x14 aluminum prop. I borrowed a 23x13 1/4" stainless Stilletto prop and only picked up 1 mph, so I spoke to the propdoc in Muncie Indiana and picked up a 22x13 vented raker prop and a 21x13 1/2 Renegade 4 blade prop. Hes put a money back guarantee on me seeing 55 mph with the Raker, and 52 mph with a significantly better holeshot with the Renegade so hopefully that's the case. I'll post results next week, but for now here's a few photos of the boat in action.

Found another one.

Thanks to SCT and his craigslist thread. I found this.

Its a long lost factory prototype for the Mercury Sportjet. It was a Cobra Sprint hull modified for a jet pump. Pretty sure this is a one of a kind boat.

If I can find an affordable Sportjet I might put it back on the water quickly. Otherwise I have to turn it back into an I/O.

That's so cool Coop. A jet drive setup in one of these things would fly. A quick check on ebay looks like theres a bunch of sport drive stuff available. What kind of HP setup would you put in it and what kinda of MPH would this thing see?
